One more pic with new bars/seat that I forgot to post earlier...

Looks great. I have a guy who does motorcycle seats nearby, he can cut the foam down and recover it for about 100 bucks. If I pick up the '17 EX, I'll have this done and likely do the Type II bars if those are an option.

I would not do the CB500 bar modification again as they vibrate too much.

While I really like the look of the new EX, the 2013 still seems to have more classic lines.

Nothing like a nice bike to help cure a bit of that "SAD" that comes around this time of year.

Looking good there boss. Is it possible in swapping for lower bars AND equally lower seat, all you did was put more bend in your knees & hips lol ?

I can't imagine why these bars wouldn't work on the 2017 EX. I'm guessing that the controls would mount the same as ferret was able to swap the newer style controls of his 2014 DLX for the older style controls like on my 2013. So hopefully the manner in which Honda has "indexed" the controls on the bars hasn't changed with the 2017 model. I'm sure that Mr. T would know the answer.

Actually, that's highly likely and I thought about this very thing before I made the swap. For all of the other health issues I'm dealing with, my physical condition is still pretty good and my knees and hips are still pretty kind to me. When I ride my Hawk for a few hours it's not my hips or knees that bark at me but my neck and wrists. Even with the new seat and bars, I can tell right away that the CB's overall rider triangle will still be quite a bit more comfy for me than the Hawk's. Obviously only time (in the saddle, lol) will tell, but I'm feeling really good about this swap.

I don't want to spend a bunch of money on this new bike assuming I find one in the right color (red!) at a good price. Handlebars is about all I want to change. And engine guards.

Nice, Guth! The type 2 bars made a significant improvement for me in comfort and front end feel. Hope you like the outcome.

Thanks Ulvetanna, I know that the Staintune, (or the Type II bars for that matter) aren't everyone's cup of tea. But I don't think anyone would think of these changes as being over-the-top. While these are rather subtle changes in the overall scheme of things, to my eye they do lend a bit more of a sporty look to the bike. It's subtle enough to the casual observer that it almost impacts them more at a subconscious level. I really like that aspect of the changes I've made. The Staintune compliments that vibe perfectly.

Thanks Capo. That's encouraging to know. I'm certainly hoping that my positive first impressions evolve into long-term satisfaction.
