Tube type/size
#1

Hi guys!

I need a new tube for my CB1100EX and I have a problem with finding one in correct size (140/70R18)
All I can find is Michelin 18MG which should fit both 130/70R18 and 150/70R18 (listed on the box)
Can I assume that it will also work with my stock-size tire?

Thanks!

You can definitely assume that will work. We sometimes put a 21" tube in an 18" tire on dirt bikes (when in a pinch) and amazingly it does work - for a short while at least.

Can't you get the original tube from a dealer? It is the same as used in the 2016-2019 CRF1000L Africa Twin. Part Number 42712-MGC-N22.

If I want to get one from Honda it will cost me ~70USD, while Michelin 18MG is around 10USD.
It's not like Honda makes them anyway + I don't have any issues with Michelin brand.

Speaking about compatibility: part number is different (42712-MGC-N22 for Africa Twin vs 42712-MGC-N21 for CB1100EX) but if you say that it's the same I will go with Michelin 18MG (because it has Africa Twin size 150/70-R18 listed on the box)

Thanks!

does the Africa Twin have straight or 90 degree valve stems? If they are 90's that could explain the different part numbers.

The original part number for the CB1100EX was 42712-MGC-N21, which has been superseded to 42712-MGC-N22. Both are made by Dunlop, both have straight stems.

I don't know what the difference is, but when the supplier (Dunlop) makes any change, Honda has to assign a new part number. Could be a spec change, change of material, or where it was made.

You can get a Honda OEM Dunlop tube off of 'PartsFish' part # 44712-MGC-N21 for $30.19 and if you enter '50offship' shipping is half price. And this tube comes from Honda. You guys with all these high Honda prices need to check out PartsFish. I have bought every single item I am putting my DLX back to new from them, and they are ALL Honda OEM parts! Call, ask for Martin, and tell him the guy that has bought almost an entire DLX by the parts sent you!

US$10 to US$70 is an extraordinary price difference.

Hi Michael1954,
thanks for idea with PartsFish, but I'm on the other side of the pond, so it means shipping + 23% VAT + customs (3%?) and it's probably around $70 again. I will stick with Michelin tube which I can have for $10

To make this thread useful for anyone looking for this information in the future: rear wheel, Michelin 18MG with straight valve (TR4), code: CAI795250

The 42712-MGC-N21 original rear tube was superseded to 42712-MGC-N22 but the front is still 42712-MGC-N21 with no supersede number. Can't find the N21 for some reason.
