Took my partner on her first real ride on the bike. Stock seat. OEM luggage rack. No back rest. An hour out, picnic by the ocean, and an hour back. 25% city, 75% coastal highway.

She managed fine and loved the feel of the CB, but said that was about her limit. Reported that the seat is comfortable and roomy enough, but that her legs were a bit scrunched up, causing achy knees and hips after about a half-hour in the saddle. Interestingly, she said that despite the cramped knees, the smoothness of the CB's ride was threatening to lull her to sleep.

Can anyone who goes two-up on the regular recommend any modifications for passenger comfort? On my old RE Interceptor 650 the Hepco and Becker passenger peg relocator kit did wonders for her ride time on that bike.

Looking forward to getting help from this group as I just bought a 2014 CB1100 DLX and it has a few issues.  With only 7,000 miles it has a yellow engine light on; the Green N display is always on regardless of gear selected and a red light on the right.  Not sure what that is for - maybe oil?  It also leaking fork gaskets.  
I have been working on several 1970s CB750s, but this is my first "modern" bike.  It runs well, just those issues i mentions above.

I have been researching this for a while and I finally have proof that honda knows about the issue. Their fix is the new ecu with updated superseded part numbers for the 13 and 14.   the old a23, new is a24 2013 and the 2014 is a a42 original and a43 updated, I have suspected for a while the issue was the firmware inside the ecu for the idle instability this was a conversation with a unnamed friend that wants me to flash his ecu that works for a dealer here is inside info of the updated ecu's     i have noticed on the 2014 about 10-20% of the bikes have the idle issue honda gave the ecu more control over the iac valve were as the old ecu has a set limit for th iac steps

In march 2018 I bought myself a brand new cb 1100 ex from a local dealer. It was a discount since it didn't sell very well. I believe I have a 2016 model. Whatever. I love the thing and I try to ride 6.000 km on it every year. It is my first bike. Got my license in 2018 and bought the bike because it was there and I allways wanted a universal Japanese motorcycle. Before, I used to ride 125 cc scooters like the S-wing.

It is a black one. Its first service after 1.000 kms was kind of funny. Way too expensive for my likings and the bill stated that the coolant was ok. I mentioned that beeing really beautiful since the bike is air cooled. It was then that I decided to do the maintenance myself. Got the service manual and currently it has 44.000 kms on it. It runs better and better. All hondas do. They don't age, they get better over time. Only thing to do is ride and maintain. They love fresh oil.

Did I change a lot? I got a fehling luggage rack. Made the wheels tubeless. That give me some choice in different tyres.I love Avon tyres. I changed the suspension. At the back it has YSS suspension and in the front it has andreani cartridges. Now I have some setting possibilities. And it feels like a flying carpet on rails. Why did I do this? Well, there was this jump I accidently made with my daughter as a pillion. It was High, fast and rough. 1 meter high, over a little hill thing. Road went up and to my surprise down again, and I rode too fast. The suspension did not like that. Afterwards there were springs, but no suspension anymore.... We both survived this well. My daughter liked it. She is crazier than me. So a replacement was needed.

Valve checks are done, they were just checks. Still everything in spec. Further on, regular maintenance, done whith love.

What else can I say. Should I mention the garage catching fire 4 years ago, and the bike was in it? That was on a sunday. Bike caught fire too. Mostly the saddle and side covers. Replaced them with originals. New mirrors, since the ladder fell on it and the bike tipped over. And new bar ends and brake and clutch handles also new. Not original.
I was just in time to put the fire out. Some heat impact on the switches, which I call beauty marks. 
I could not ride for a while because I had to wait for the saddle. I wasn't planning on getting sick, so I had to buy another bike. A kawasaki ninja1000 sx. I am convinced God has forgiven me for this stupidity and when I came to my senses again, I replaced it with a second hand NC 750 X, that needed some TLC, which I gave it and this is still my everyday ride. There is no such thing as winter, when you ride a bike like that. This one got other suspension too, and steel brake lines from Hell. I explained to God the purpose of this and he agreed. This bike too is really comfortable.

Both bikes are complementary and I love them. I jump from one on the other, the nc has DCT, which is really nice to have. There is no time needed to get used to shifting again or not anymore depending on the bike. I goes flawlessly.

I apologize if this question has been asked before. I could pull out my service manual and look it up, but sometimes owners / mechanics discover better repair ideas often overlooked by service manuals.

On the CB1100, do the camshaft drive gears need to be removed to allow removal of the camshafts, or can the camshaft drive chain be loosened, and slipped off without removing the gear(s)?

I just discovered my clutch side RLET has a split! And it's only 10 years old! I ordered a new one.

This thread documents how to replace a damaged Handlebar Weight Assembly. Note that this assembly plays a very important role in enhancing our riding experience. They reduce handlebar vibrations from the engine and the road. They also improve stability by decreasing muscle fatigue in your hands. They are a “have-to-have,” not a “nice-to-have,” regardless of what any Internet influencer may assert.

See the most common scenarios when a handlebar weight replacement is warranted:

• Damage from a Drop or Crash: If the handlebar end has been scraped, dented, or bent during a fall or accident, the weight should be replaced to restore structural integrity and balance.
  
• Missing or Loose Components: If the weight has fallen off due to vibrations loosening the screw, or if the internal threads are stripped.
  
• Significant Corrosion or Rust: If the part is heavily corroded, it might prevent it from fitting properly or affect its function.
  
• Damaged Rubber Dampers:  If the rubber has deteriorated or hardened, it may cause the weight to vibrate, requiring a replacement of the weight or its mounting rubber.
  
• Excessive Handlebar Vibration: If you experience new or increased tingling/numbness in your hands while riding, it may indicate a damaged or ineffective bar weight.

A note/update on morning eats at the rally

Hi y'all.  I just got off the phone with Carolina, the owner of Los Amigos Restaurant, just opened inside the Round Barn Lodge.  This is their third restaurant in the area and yes, it is a Mexican restaurant.  Since there are few in the group that cannot or will not eat Mexican food, this will probably not be a spot we use for a group dinner and they open at 10:00am which is too late for breakfast.  However, I can arrange to have a selection of "grab and go" items available for us for some pre-ride sustenance.  Carolina is very interested in helping us with something like that.  She even offered to open early for regular breakfast meals, but I don't think that is necessary nor particularly affordable.  Those that want a full breakfast will be able to venture a little south on US14 to Anita's Cafe which opens at 7:00am.  

Some of you have indicated that you could bring your own breakfast snacks, and that is wonderful, but I'd like to at least have Carolina put together some options that might make that unnecessary.   To that end, here's a survey with some common breakfast items that could be available.  Pick the ones that you would actually eat/drink and we'll see where this leads us.   If I missed an item that's would be important to you, please comment on that.
