Dont get me wrong if the governor or the President said absolutely no travel except to grocery or pharmacy, (and it may come to that) I of course would not be riding/driving anywhere else. I might ride to the pharmacy if I have to pick up a prescription.
Whether I take my truck or my motorcycle to do my errands should be my choice.
Yes, it is and should be, Ferret. As should be your choice about your daily ride. I guess the only risk exposure you have is buying petrol. It’s up to you and all of us to decide whether the small risk of an accident is worth it in the circumstances of each day.

From my perspective, free country or not, it should not take anybody telling you to stay home etc. It is simple common sense, and thinking of others. I mentioned the no-riding in the other thread already, and I can see that everybody doesn't agree. I find it a bit selfish in a situation as the one the world is experiencing right now to say that you still want to go for pleasure rides because you are an experienced rider. Also, the fact that your government allows you to go to the park makes no sense to me, since again people are mingling there.
Ferret, it seems to me you live in a house in the country, so I would have to ask what is the point right now for you to go to the park? I can understand people living in an apartment wanting to get out and walk a bit, but if you already live in the country you should just stay away from public parks. Here in Switzerland they are not open to the public anymore.
In any case, I would never tell anybody what they should do. I just think that it is common sense to think about others, and try to leave as much chance of survival to those that no longer have the choice to stay at home.

It should be clear to everyone that the human race most often doesn't show much common sense even in "normal" times.
Henrik, here in the US there are some saying "If it kills 2% of the population that's a risk I'm willing to take". Of course if asked which two of a hundred friends and relatives they're willing to sacrifice they can't give you an answer. But don't ask them that, then they'd actually have to think.
Henrik, it's not the destination, it's the journey. The motorcycle ride. It's the only place my government has given me the ok to go, besides the grocery and the pharmacy. When or if they say it's no longer safe to do that , then I won't.
Apartment or 3 bedroom house on 5 acres in the country makes no difference. I take up the same physical amount of space in either one, and you only NEED so much space to live. I've lived in this house for 26 years, have been retired going on 7 years. I 'm pretty much here 23 hours a day, every day, 365 days a year. Every so often one likes to see different scenery, otherwise it's just a big expensive jail cell. Getting out is important for my physical and mental well being.
Now here is the important part you must understand...As long as I have ZERO chance of contracting or spreading the virus while riding to the park and back, and my government says it's OK to do it, why would I NOT do it?
I'm rather surprised by the social censure being displayed here in a motorcycle community. An experienced rider, alone out in the country on largely empty roads, in an area largely unaffected by the virus, is the least of the world's worries right now.
No doubt most people who contracted C-19 are innocent, but I dare say many of them engaged in reckless behavior and/or failed to follow proper hygiene. Who's to say that such people have more "right" to occupy a hospital bed than a downed motorcyclist? Or, who's more "deserving" of a hospital bed: a downed rider, or a bystander who got shot when a nearby drug deal went bad?
This is the problem with the collectivist mindset. It ends up pitting the interests of the individual against the interests of "society" while ignoring the fact that "society" is just a collection of other individuals. Everyone is self-interested; that's what it means to be human. No one individual or group of individuals has a right to demand the sacrifice of any other individual's interests on the altar of the collective interest (however that is determined and by whom).
If we succumb to that kind of thinking, we're not much different than the savages who engaged in human sacrifice so that the gods would show favor on their tribe with fertile women and fertile fields.
All that being said, please understand that I am not advocating for selfish incivility. Anyone claiming liberty for himself rationally needs to respect it for others. No one has the right to recklessly or intentionally endanger the health and safety of others, and for that reason we do have laws and enforcement in place to keep the peace and protect individual liberty. For example, knowingly going about spreading C-19 to other citizens is not an exercise of liberty, it is a form of negligence or intentional battery and should be handled legally as such.
