Who rides the CB 1100?

61 year old HVAC, Building, and systems Engineer for a Large Bank, and lending institution. I also own and ride a 2007 Harley Dyna Street Bob. If I could only have one however, it would be the Honda.

51 year old Airline Pilot. Grew up with mini bikes, but my dad never let us have dirt bikes. I always wanted a real motorcycle so when I graduated from high school, I took my graduation money and bought an 82 Virago 750. When my dad found out, he hit the roof. I ended up selling it when I was 23 when I got my first airline job. I spent a good 25 years without a motorcycle, raised a family, (man time flies) until I got a free 1973 CZ175 a few years ago. I got it running and it sparked my interest again. Then I found a 1972 Honda CL175 for cheap and loved it. When I saw a picture of the 13 CB I ran to the dealer and bought it! When I saw the 14 CB DLX, I ran out and got that one too! My wife is happy they didn't come out with a 2015 CB! I'm on the hunt now to find that Virago I used to own.

Another airline pilot here... 48-years-old, came from a Ninja 250. Great little bike just a little lacking in a few things. Almost bought a Yamaha FJ-09 instead but when I showed the pictures of the CB1100 and the FJ-09 to my wife it was a done deal. I was already leaning toward the CB at that point, that just put it over the top.

40 year old research administrator here. Came from a Suzuki GS500. I loved the naked look of UJM/Bonnevilles. I had a '97 Civic that got me through a lot of lean years without a single fuss which really solidified my love of Hondas.

I'm a 64 year old transit bus driver. I've been employed at TriMet for 30 years. My hobbies are genealogy, stereo Hi-Fi, and cars. I bought my first motorcycle in 1973 - a Yamaha RD350. I've owned a lot of Yamaha's, Harley's and some BMW's. My other current ride is a BMW K1600 GTL. MY CB is the first Honda I've owned. I was attracted to the bike by it's fit and finish, beautiful styling, and fun, easy to ride power delivery. Now I'm looking at the new Indian's - more nostalgia!

I'm a 24 year old program manager. I would assume I'm one of the younger people who rides a CB. I had a Shadow 600 in college and had to leave it behind in a move. Lasted about a year with a car and got sick of it. Sold it 3 months ago and the next day bought a used 2014 CB with 4k miles. I still have only seen one other CB1100 in the sound area, and it was a 2014 Deluxe. It's nice to have a somewhat rare motorcycle.

Im 26 and I work in the family business of selling quality control gages. Ive had harleys hondas and yamahas and just love the build quality and reliability of all things honda.

27 and I work in the healthcare IT field. I grew up with my dad always picking me up on his motorcycles and I absolutely hated the things back then. Hit my mid-20s and thought that I really want to ride now (I think Sons of Anarchy may have sparked a bit of that urge). Got my M license a couple years ago and one kz440, and cb750 later I'm a proud owner of the CB11. Never got interested in bikes til' a couple years ago and since then I always gravitated towards the standards/cafe's. In my eyes, there's just no competition for styling that standards are able to pull off even stock.

I just turned 59 & run a high school printshop. I started on minibikes then went through several Hondas: CT Trail 70, CL 100, MR175 & a Yamaha DT 125. I stopped riding when I married to raise kids. Bought my sons a Honda CRF230, when I taught them to ride the "bug" bit. I bought a couple of Honda "fixer-uppers" XL100 & XL250 but decided I didn't want to deal with anymore projects. Bought a KLR650 and rode 8 years as my "re-entry bike". When I saw the CB1100 I test rode a '13 but was considering the Bonneville. When I saw the Deluxe I had to have it! I have never been so pleased with a motorcycle before; I love it!

I'm a 22 year old lifeguard from New Jersey. Just bought a 2014 cb1100 because I fell in love with the bike for every reason there is. Mostly because of how simple and straight forward it is. I understand a lot of kids my age flock to the retro look but that wasn't a main driving force for me. I just love the engine design, and balanced feel of the bike. It hits so many notes so well. In my opinion it's a great bike and the best new retro bike you could own. Don't care much for the triumphs I feel that they're trying a little too hard.

I'm impressed at how many young men in their 20's have a CB and their thoughts and impressions echo those of us "old guys" who love this graceful and civilized machine. Just moments ago I arrived home after a three hour ride along one of our winding coastal back roads.
I'm also impressed by the wide range of ages. SlyvesterZ is 22 and I'm 77. That's a wide range (and all ages in between) if there ever was one :D

We had a KLR tech day/cookout/swim party yesterday and it got me thinking. I did a quick search and didn't see this discussed before.

I find it interesting how different bikes attract different kinds of folks. Speaking from my limited observations and in really broad generalizations, it seems that doctors and dentists ride BMWs, lawyers and car mechanics ride Harleys, Aircraft mechanics, engineers, retired cops and retired military ride KLRs. All good people, all having fun. So what's the thread that ties CB1100 riders? Maybe we mostly rode in the '70s on bikes that look like the CB? Pilots seem to like them, though maybe pilots just like this forum :excited: A thread polling careers would be interesting.

Anyone want to post up with their career/hobbies beyond the CB? I'll start...

I am 58, run a t-shirt company and rode a CB400f in the '70s.
I'm not convinced at all that this can be done. I've been riding for over 20 years, and have owned UJM, and Harleys, and now a euro as well. I think what you ride is what appeals to you within the price range you can afford. To say that lawyers, and car mechanics ride Harleys is far from the whole picture. Granted the new 500cc entry level Harley is cheap, but one of Harley's most successful model is the Street Glide that starts at over $20K. The very first Dyna or big Twin, starts at $13K. You better have a solid income to afford those. My experience after having owned 3 Harleys, and gone to many rallies, and belonging to a Harley Owners Group Chapter Club for years, is that you'll see doctors, dentists, cops, firemen, lawyers, and all sorts of people on those bikes. Same with the pricy BMWs. Harleys and BMW aren't cheap at all. I'm a 42 year old teacher, and all my Harleys were quite frankly a bit over what I could afford, and should have bought. Believe it or not, a KLR sighting is a rare sighting on the road, and very few people with money own a KLR as their only and primary bike. I love KLRs, and I want one. At $6,600 brand new, it's super cheap. Of course they are always people with money who will buy a couple for those camping weekends, to have fun with the family, and those broke teachers, who will buy $24K full Harley dressers. Only thrill seekers can find crotch rockets in any price range, from the cheap $4,999 Ninja 300 to the $25K Ninja H2, including 500s, 600s, 750s, liter bikes, 1300, and 1400ccs in between. So again, I think it's really what is appealing to us within the price range we can afford, and then we dream, because for most of us there is always that bike way out of our price range, or just no more room in the garage. Have you seen the new Ducati Panigale R?

I'm a 67 year old retired baker. I started riding in 1965. I've had almost every brand. I currently ride a BMW K1600GTL. I'm looking to buy a CB 1100 as a second bike because I've always enjoyed riding UJM's. I had a Honda CB 450, A Kawasaki Z-1 and a Yamaha XS1100 before going to Italian bikes. Japanese bikes were very reliable for the most part and had great ergonomic's.

Saw the bike when they brought it to the states like 3 years ago and really wanted one but, couldn't justify spending the money on it at the time.

Of course, Performance Honda sold me a lemon in the CB500F and then refused to replace it (even though it was defective when I rode it off the lot) and even Honda themselves wanted to take the bike for an unspecified amount of time (the dealer already had it for 2 weeks and I had it for about 2 days after buying it) and leave me with nothing to ride. When we couldn't reach an amicable solution, Honda decided to lie about their findings and told me that they never said there was anything wrong with the bike (I had a motorcycle cop ride it and all my friends, the transmission was jacked up)...

Anyway, that experience turned me off Honda for a few years and I was riding a Ninja when they started to clearance the CB1100s in my area. I decided I wanted one and got to test drive my brothers so, I gave it a shot and so far, the bike is decent but, if there's no other CB1100s on the market when it is time to replace it, I won't be buying another Honda.

Oh and I'm 45 and an IT Professional.

58 year old Technical Specialist at a global aluminum producer. I've been riding since I was 14, albeit I gave it up from 1984 to 2013 to raise a family. Knew when I started reading about the CB in 2009 that I would have to have one.

65 year old computer tech. My last new bike before the CB1100 was a Kawasaki Z1. I have a soft spot for classic style 4 cylinder air cooled motorcycles.

56 yr old aerospace (mechanical), design engineer. I've owned somewhere around 25 motorcycles in my 47 years of riding motorcycles (I really need to sit down and figure out the correct number someday). I presently own six motorcycles, including a 1976 Honda CB750F with 127,000 miles (original owner) that I am slowly restoring after storing it in my shed for 17 years. I fell in love with the classic looks of the CB1100 (except for the silver side covers) the first time I saw one, and the more I thought about it I decided I wanted to own one. I bought mine for the looks, and because I knew I needed to slow down a little bit on my weekend rides (I still swap rides between my VFR800 and the CB1100).

32 year old mechanical/aerospace engineer. Pretty sure I was born in the wrong era, about 30 years late. Love the classic look of the CB1100 tied in with modern additions. Bought this bike as a project and a toy. Been having a blast modifying things to make it mine. I live in Alaska and have a pretty scenic commute. Always prefer to feel the wind.

Boy do I fit the profile. 59, late father of 4 boys, teacher, escapee of northern virginia to a county in the very southern edge of va. The county is so rural, I kid you not, we have zero stop lights in the entire county. Mostly a farming/ logging area. Great little country roads.

Sounds like an area worth exploring. If I head that way, I'll let you know to look out for me.
