This is a fairly long video, so give it a little time, but you’ll see a black pickup truck intentionally accelerating and then making a lane change into the first of three riders in the left lane of this interstate freeway just south of Denver. We don’t know what precipitated this but hopefully the driver is convicted on attempted murder and finds himself behind bars.

HOLY CRAP

Attempted murder is 100% right. As well as a MASSIVE collection of other charges. Hit that guy with EVERYTHING.

- speeding, reckless driving, leaving the scene with serious injury or death, improper lane change, riding on shoulder, aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, even failure to signal!!

Double the charges as the article mentions a passenger.

Wow. Deserves a life sentence, no bail, no parole, and MASSIVE fines!!

Even if provoked, the charges will still stand.

Doesn't matter if the biker cut him off, flipped him off, threw a beer can at him or slept with his wife. Guy is going away for a long long time.
I really cringed when I watched this video...the rider appears to be in a t-shirt.. cant tell what kind of helmet, but they mention head injury.

OW.

In Japan, if a motorcycle is hit by a car the car driver is assumed at fault, unless proven otherwise. At least that is how it was explained to me while riding there.

From article: "CSP said that the driver of the pickup stayed on scene."

Looks like he had a change of heart because at first he pulls over to far right lane and then speeds away, one of the mc riders appears to give chase. Perhaps that made PU driver realize he wasn't going to get away with it.

Unbelievable! Just goes to show that you can't be too careful. There was a guy around here that shot a teenage girl in the head in a road rage incident. They said she was already dead when her car ran off the road into a tree.

The man on the motorcycle was 54-year-old Quentin Quidley. He was on a bike trip with his brother and two of their friends just passing through Colorado. A tradition for the brothers, one of them said.
Quentin Quidley's little brother, James Quidley, was riding alongside his older brother before the incident. James Quidley said they were coming up fast on another truck, and jumped into the left-hand lane to avoid a crash. That move, he said, forced the driver of the black truck to brake.

The brothers took off, to put some distance between themselves and that driver. But several miles up the road, they saw the black truck cross four lanes to approach them again.

"So we take off a little bit, to get some distance between us. I think it’s all over and we start cruising again," said James Quidley. "About two or three miles down the road, I see him coming up in the right lane. I couldn’t believe he did what he did... To have him come from that right lane and put me and my brother on the shoulder... That was bad enough.
"How we didn’t wreck then is beyond me. Him and my brother had some words. Then he gave a second little swerve, hit my brother’s faring, caused my brother to hit the wall. And I just watched my brother start tumbling in front of me," James Quidley said breaking down.

"Nobody should have to witness that. That is horrific," he said.
As of Monday, Quentin Quidley was still in the ICU.

James Quidley said his brother has five broken ribs, a fractured skull and face, and a broken right ankle from the incident.

CSP said there have not been any arrests made, and nobody has been charged in the incident as of Monday.
A 9NEWS viewer shared dashcam video below that shows the crash: three motorcycles are riding together in the left lane when a black pickup moves across all lanes of traffic from the right lane and swerves into one of the motorcycles. The motorcycle then hits the barrier, loses control and crashes.

Ok - so the bikers were indeed riding like ****** and incited this behavoir.. sounds like they could have caused an accident themselves "coming up on another truck and needing to swerve into left lane to avoid a crash'... cutting off the black truck so he had to hit his brakes...

But still- "there have not been any arrests made, and nobody has been charged in the incident as of Monday." is wrong.

Charge the bikers- yes even the ICU guy, careless, reckless, speeding, whatever... but to hit someone with a truck into a barrier...is still WAAAAY worse.

Ugh. Play stupid games- win stupid prizes. All while wearing a t-shirt at speed.... the world is your cheese grater.

Sad state of affairs. I hope he recovers.
I read an article a while back about taxi drivers in India (I believe). It was making the point that to do that sort of job you have to have a very calm, zen-like disposition or it'll drive you crazy. Don't aggravate others and regardless of who might be at fault in a road "situation," let it roll off and stay calm.
I try to remember that when someone cuts me off or pulls out on me. Just let it go... no harm no foul. But I also try to remember it when I make a mistake out there. And I do make mistakes. If I screw up, I try to give an apologetic wave and let the other driver have their way.
My wife may tell this story differently

Yeah...I'm all in on the "keep calm and stay alive" approach to riding. About 20 years ago, I was riding with a buddy in the left lane when a soccer mom on her cell phone in the center lane swerved her Suburban into our lane. I braked and safely switched lanes behind her. My buddy accelerated, then planted his size 13 steel shank logger boot into the sheet metal of her door. It startled her so badly that she immediately braked and swerved hard right, almost taking me out, along with another car clear over in the right lane. A few minutes later, after we stopped, I listened to my buddy go on and on about a fornicating female dog. I remembered seeing two blond-headed kids in carseats in that Suburban. His aggressive response could have made it so much worse.

Wise blokes, you and Bob, Roper. You never know, do you, whether it's intentional, stupid or a SMISDY? Be glad you escaped and move on.

Update 9/03: Driver of truck seen in video slamming into motorcycle on I-25 faces attempted murder charge

CASTLE PINES, Colo. — The driver of a truck seen in a video swerving into a motorcyclist on Interstate 25 last month faces numerous charges, including attempted first-degree murder, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) announced Thursday.

Alberto Mota, 38, faces other charges that include vehicular assault and child abuse because his 12-year-old daughter was in the truck with him at the time of the incident, CSP said.

"This is a case far beyond a simple careless driving charge, said CSP Captain JP Burt.

The road rage incident involving a truck and motorcycle happened around 2 p.m. on Aug. 16 and was recorded by a dash camera from another vehicle. The video, which was provided to 9NEWS by a witness, shows a black pickup truck traveling across several lanes of southbound I-25 and hitting into a motorcycle driven by 54-year-old Quentin Quidley.

He was pushed into a barrier in the Castle Pines area and suffered five broken ribs, a fractured skull and face and a broken right ankle from the incident.

Quidley was on a bike trip with his brother and two of their friends just passing through Colorado, a tradition for the brothers, one of them said.

Quentin Quidley's little brother, James Quidley, was riding alongside his older brother before the incident. James Quidley said they were coming up fast on another truck, and jumped into the left-hand lane to avoid a crash. That move, he said, forced the driver of the black truck to brake.

The brothers took off to put some distance between themselves and that driver, they said. But several miles up the road, they said they saw the black truck cross four lanes to approach them again.

"So we take off a little bit, to get some distance between us. I think it’s all over and we start cruising again," said James Quidley. "About 2 or 3 miles down the road, I see him coming up in the right lane.

And I just watched my brother start tumbling in front of me," James Quidley said, breaking down.

CSP interviewed Mota, who was driving a Ford F250 pickup on the scene immediately after the crash, and released him. CSP said Mota initially led troopers to believe he had simply made an unsafe lane change, which resulted in the crash.

The video footage from another driver's dashcam, which was provided to 9NEWS and then to CSP, prompted troopers to reopen the investigation as a possible road rage incident.

"We were able to review that dashcam, do a very in-depth analysis of the events that took place on video and make a determination that this was an intentional act," said Burt. "This was not a simple crash."

CSP said they had to go back and do a full accident reconstruction of what happened, which took some time. He said reconstruction is common practice when very serious charges are involved.

Mota turned into himself into the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Wednesday night on the following charges:

Attempted first-degree murder
Two counts attempted first-degree murder - extreme indifference
Four counts felony menacing
One count vehicular assault
Bond violation
Child abuse
Driving under restraint (his license was suspended or revoked)
Reckless endangerment

CSP said they're still looking for any witnesses or anyone who might have video of the interactions between the motorcyclists and the truck driver. Anyone who has information should call CSP at 303-239-4501.

Looks like he won't be driving for a longer time and roads will be safer without him!
Thanks for your update, LR.
