Running like a top
I get off or on the bike either one side or the other, although more naturally on the left. But the important thing is safety (if on the side of a road, for example) and also ease of access, when the bike is parked in a crowded place.
About the kick starter : I remember some bikes had it on the left! Jawa-CZ (from eastern Europe), and some Husqvarna also, like this one: Husqvarna TE 510 model 1989
