ECU on its way to Guhl's!

So I shipped out my ECU today to Guhl Motors for a reflash. I know the CB is no sportbike, but I figure a few more hp, removed speed limiter, and snappier throttle response couldn't hurt! Can't wait to try 'er out!

I'll report back.

I did mine last year along with a Power Commader V. (PC V went on first.) Night & day difference with the PC V. I remember the first time I let go of the clutch lever in the parking lot. The bike leaped ahead. Totally unexpected. It was awesome!

I also put on a Yosh full exhaust because it reminded me (in pictures) of the Kerker pipes from way back when. But the sound the Yosh makes is now my favorite part of the bike. Not because it is "loud". It really isn't, but it does sound like a 4-cylinder motor in a highly-efficient state of tune now. I can ride in 2nd gear all day and never get tired of that sound. And I added an K&N air filter. And had the bike dyno-tuned. The dyno-tune produced the last little bit of throttle I wanted.

After the PC V and ECU re-flash, I had a lot of popping on de-cel. Kinda ruined the whole thing for me as it just signaled an incomplete or improper modification. Didn't quite know where to turn since I was getting conflicting messages from those that had been helping me. Then the forum came through...

The PAIR valve cutoff fixed everything immediately. Felt like my modification went from 50% successful to 100%. For free, in about ten minutes. Can't beat that!

For those that say ECU re-flashes and PC V's are a waste of money (i.e. they don't add horsepower) I strongly disagree. I ca't believe anybody that says that has ridden a re-mapped bike. I din't go into this expecting huge dyno runs. I just wanted the engine to perform in line with the quality Honda built in it. None of these changes make the motor brittle, or incubate future problems. But...it is truly a different bike now. After buying it and riding 100 miles, I thought I had made a mistake, and that the CB1100 would soon become boring. I was afraid it would get pushed further back in the shop while I rode other bikes. Now it is my go-to bike.

Thanks for the feedback, Olyrider! I was looking at MotoGeezer's mods and I might go that route. He's gained an additional 13hp. Not too shabby.

I'm getting "patched in" to the L.A. 59 Club next month and part of the tradition is "doing the ton", or going 100+mph. I want to leave all those Thrux's in the dust. Lol.

I did the Guhl reflash and I'm happy with it. Did it mostly to remove the ridiculously low speed limiter.

Olyrider, why would one do both a power commander AND an ecu reflash? Isn't that kind of redundant? Or does the power commander do something that a simple ecu reflash can't do?

I think the PCV is necessary when dyno tuning for more precise control of the fuel maps. I'm sure Oly will chime in with more info.

This (at least that's why I did it). The PCV is the 800lb gorilla of aftermarket tuners and finding someone local to tune using it will take a few minutes, whereas someone who will reflash a CB ECU isn't going to be nearly as easy. If you ever plan on doing future mods, it's easier to have the ecu fueling left stock and just tune through the PCV.

I prefer the Rock Store ride. Daskraut is right. ACH is insane with wannabe Valentino Rossi's and Grand Am racers. A buddy of mine and I almost got wiped out by a fishtailing Corvette last time we rode up there.

To get around the loons & weekend warriors, I usually go up there on weekdays and only go on weekends during the winter. Too many morons and too much Darwin at work during the summer.

I watched a guy get medivaced out the last time I was riding the Crest on a Sunday. The helicopter picked the injured rider up right on the highway.

The Rock Store also works for me! I haven't been there in years.
