Long Ranger thought of you, what a season?

Hey we did that pass with LR didn't we?

Thassa lotta snow

Yes, we rode Guanella on the way to breakfast in Fairplay, CO. Great road! The southern leg was paved just a few years ago.

SW Colorado really got hammered this winter. US 550 ("Million Dollar Highway") over Red Mountain Pass between Ouray and Silverton was closed for several weeks this spring due to avalanches, but I believe it's open now. Come soon if you want to avoid the inevitable parade of RV's and gawkers.

And in Lake City, along the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, they're very concerned about flooding and will likely have road closures once the temps warm up and the snowpack begins to melt. This is another great road!

The National Park Service expects Lake Powell to rise 50' this summer. It's currently rising 15" a day, which is incredible when you consider how huge the lake is. Colorado is 100% drought-free for the first time since 2002.

Love that picture.

LR, we rode thru Rocky Mountain National Park too didn't we! Didn't look like that though (thank goodness). I think that's where my Senior Citizen Park Pass got us all in for nothing lol.

I am planning on riding this area early/mid August during my big ol' trip. Thoughts, opinions? Great time to visit, awful time..?

Daniel, it'll be a great time but you'll probably encounter lots of summer traffic. All of the high passes will be open by then, so no worries. Keep one eye on the road and the other eye on the sky, because storms can and do pop up unexpectedly at higher elevations.

Ferret, we rode the Peak-to-Peak Highway to Estes Park and then entered Rocky Mountain National Park and rode Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake, but I believe both Offroad and I had to cough up $20 to enter the park. I think your pass got the three of us to Mt. Evans for free.
