USB Power

Hey! Does anyone know a good way to power a usb device on the bike? Something that only works when the bike is on? If anyone has done this on their cb1100 let me know I'm mounting a gopro to run while I ride and need power to it.

All I did, I installed a USB socket, not so difficult to do.
With this socket I loaded my GoPro and some other batteries
I used on my trip to scandinavia, which ended recently.

The charging was only done when the bike was running. Also I put out the fuse
of the socket, if the CB is not in use for longer time or I don't intend to charge something,
which I normally do at home, when not on longer tours, 'cause the socket always takes some
energy out of the battery, wether the bike is running or not.

Don't know, if a GoPro is recording, if it is plugged to a socket. Don't think so,
'cause by that the charging mode is switched on automatically.

I put a battery tender lead with the sae connector direct to the battery, ran the wire to the passenger hand rail and zip tied the slack to the frame under the seat. I use this for the battery tender and I can plug a USB adapter into it to charge my phone or spare gopro batteries while I'm riding although I rarely do. It's always live. If I'm charging my phone or camera batteries, they're zipped in to my tail bag. I never leave anything to charge when I'm away from the bike. Works for me.

I mounted a usb socket to the handle bars next to a ram mount for my phone or gps.

For Hero 3 and 4 cameras, you can use a battery eliminator from [url=http://www.switronix.com/products?page=shop.browse&category_id=54]Switronix, and a usb battery. I use an [url=http://www.ianker.com/product/79AN7917-BA]Anker 10000 mAh battery, which gives me over 12 hours of run time per charge. The E3 has two ports so you could charge your phone or gps at the same time you're recording video.
Kenny's option looks real good! I might go that route myself.

Put a USB dual head charger under the seat, wired to the red accessory plug. It's probably not as handy as on the bars, but I like that it's invisible when not in use. And stringing a usb cable from the seat to my tank bag isn't that hard.

Wow Thanks for the info guys! This really helps! My only concern is the battery going dead on some that you connect directly tot the battery. But it looks like that isn't likely to happen!

Well, there's always some sort of risk. I've a cigarette lighter outlet on the bars wired into the spare outlet in the headlight casing. That connects it to a fuse and the ignition and makes me a bit more comfortable.
