Very Boring Front Sprocket Spacer Thread

This, I'm afraid, is a rather dull request for a bit of help working out if I've put my spacers together in the right order...

I changed the front sprocket to a 17t a while back and I've had an increasing amount of drive noise from that area since.

I whipped it off today and found the bolt that holds the sprocket in has stretched hugely and I reckon that's the culprit. New one ordered.

My query is that when I pulled the sprocket off, there is a collar behind it. It's not on the Honda parts list as far as I can see. It's sitting out side of the Oil Seal on the Counter Shaft.

I'm wondering if it was a spacer that came with the new sprocket, as it isn't an OEM, or if it's always been there.

I was thinking, if I've put that spacer on the wrong side of the sprocket and the sprockets aren't alined properly then that could be making the noise.

If it is an extra spacer then that might explain the stretch on the bolt that holds the sprocket on, as it won't be all the way in to the shaft and threads will be exposed.

On the off chance, has any one had their front sprocket off recently and noticed if the is a spacer behind it.

I've answered my own question, its part of the Countershaft Baring, It's not a collar or spacer.

I'd delete this thread if I could... Admin. feel free to pull if you like.

So where's it supposed to be? Any pics or diagrams? I also changed to a 17T but don't recall what you are posting about, and now I'm concerned.

Don't be.
It is, as popgun says, not easy to see on the parts diagram. I looked at the gearbox section in the manual and could see that it's part of the Countershaft and bearing that the oil seal sits on. It's wider than the oil seal and it sticks out, airside of the oil seal. The Sprocket buts up to it. It can't be removed.

Now I'm looking for my original OEM Sprocket to measure the width. I could still have an alignment problem.

I'll let you know what I find.

What make is your 17t sprocket?

Replaced the 17t sprocket with a new bolt from Honda.
All noise has now gone and back to normal.
The stretched bolt would appear to be the culprit.

A warning about using a rattle gun to tighten a bolt instead of torquing up with a Torque Wrench I guess.
