#1
Hi Can some one enlighten me as to the engine number on a CB1100RS I take it they all have the first 5 characters SC65E followed by a dash but can you decode the remaining 7 characters?

thanks

SC65 is Honda’s designation for the CB1100 from 2010 onwards. I suspect the remaining digits may be a serial number. There’s a clue here, https://www.hondashop.com.au/wp-content/...-Chart.pdf

Thank you What I was trying to find out is if you can tell the date of manufacture of the engine by it's engine number?

You can tell which bike was made after or before another one by the sequence of their last numbers, but I think that is all you can tell. For instance, number ...210 would be made after number ...209.

Switched to SC78 with the 2017 updates.

Dubs, it may have changed to SC78 in Europe, but not in the US or the UK. Hence Maturecheese is reporting his engine number as SC65E. Given, as you’ve said elsewhere, it’s the same engine, that’s not surprising.

Yes mine is SC65E-******* and it is a 2019 model. I am just trying to find out for a couple of reasons, which may be no issue, if it is the original engine as i bought the machine used private. Of course if it isn't the original engine, which I am not saying it isn't I am just trying to find out, my concern is I would need to have the valve clearances checked as I would have no idea of the mileage, currently just over 3000 according to the odometer.

I’d have thought the vehicle registration would record both VIN and engine number and that you should be able to check with the motor registry to see whether the engine had been changed. Seems pretty unlikely to me.

Can’t remember off hand, but I think the valve clearances need checking every 12,000 kms. May be more from 2017 on. There is seldom anything amiss with the clearances until many more kms have been ridden. Unless you have another reason to be concerned about the valve clearances, I wouldn’t be concerned.

That's weird...

I think that is due to the RS model. Didn’t the UK get the RS though?
