Had someone read the OBD for me, and this is what we got.

“Communication serial” “power to cluster”.

I did noticed a hard start so I may try a new battery as I believe mines the original. I’ll check around the wires leading from the cluster to the battery too, but any advice on what to inspect if appreciate. Honda dealer is booked 6 months out and there’s only one dealer within 150miles…

With your explanation this sounds absolutely plausible to me, had similar " mysterious" cel warning after a reluctant start on another bike with a good yuasa 1 year old battery, fixed by installing a lithium one with more start capacity, so yes.

Maybe a good idea to check for good and clean battery/cables contact, we found that a battery needs replacement if the green neutral light dims while the starter is operated and the voltage to the ecu is below an acceptable level.

Also older batteries need more frequent riding to keep them topped up before the inevitable, 6 years is a good lifespan.

If the speedo reads fine things are ok, that is the only comms signal i can think of on this line, good thinking.Thumbs Up

Same experience here. On our CB a week battery may be enough to start the engine, but it has already caused the FI light come to come ON on my bike. You put a new battery in (they usually come fully charged), start the engine (! the FI light will stay ON !), ride half a mile and the light will go OFF). Just reving the engine is not enough. The code your bike has thrown and the FI light both have the same cause.

If I get home at a decent time I’ll check out the battery swap it out this weekend and let you guys know.

I’m the only one that drives my bike, and I have no children so I’d imagine it couldn’t be a bad wire unless it’s a battery terminal that loosened up or something.

Sorry, it took so long ups lost my package.

Yes, it was the battery. I charged the old one and the engine light went away. Just swapped to a lithium battery and the lights gone. Starts up instantly.

I have a second battery now new lithium if anyone is interested. Ups phone the lost one and Amazon sent another so I have two now.


Funny story I lost the terminal nut, and it’s not in my garage lmao so I had to run and get another one.

... excellent Jgarciajr40. A good LiFePO4 battery should last you a very long time if you perform the specified care for it.

Awesome mr Garcia jr, well done on the battery, don't even have to put vaseline on the terminals like with vrla batteries and as Gold says it will last a remarkable long time , my lithium battery is now 3 years old and will last a lot longer.
