First, this is not a complaint about my dealer. I have had good experience with their service in the past and I trust them.
Now the question. They have had my CB1100 since mid-August with a fuel pump on order since then. Supplier says it is back-ordered and they have followed up several times. This is four months now and this is a large dealer in our area.
Is the fuel pump for our bikes unique or is it in fact a shared part across many Honda models? Mine is a 2013 model. Certainly someone here has replaced a fuel pump and can relay their experience. I thought supply chain issues were a thing of the past.

For what it's worth, [url=https://www.servicehonda.com]this site can provide details of the Honda motorcycles each part is used on. This fuel pump is, apparently, only used on the 2010 - 2013 CB1100 models.
You could try having a search of the WWW using the part number. Heaven knows what you might find.

Quantum Fuel Systems lists a complete fuel pump kit that contains the filter and fuel tank gasket for $89.98. They list the part number as HFP-382S-UR2T. I purchased fuel pump on Amazon for my 2002 Honda VFR800 for $16.00. The fuel pumps used today in fuel injected motorcycles are nearly identical to fuel pumps used in many cars. You can contact Quantum Fuel Systems and ask them any questions you may have, I have communicated with them in the past when I thought I needed a new pump, but it turned out I didn't need it; they were very helpful. The part number, 16700-MGC-J82, is correct for either 2013 models.
Your dealer may have given good service in the past, and be a large dealer, but it doesn't guarantee that has happened this time. I hope it is a franchised Honda dealer with certified Honda techs. Even so, they may have mis-handled your problem.
Critical parts necessary for a bike's running are seldom on backorder for long. A good dealer would have called American Honda's parts department to determine the ETA of the item, and initiate a Special Parts Request.
A physical search of each warehouse's stock location, not relying on computer inventory data, is initiated. Then, a search request to see if a dealer somewhere has one on their shelf can be initiated. Failing that, AH will contact other Honda distributors around the world to check their inventories. And occasionally, magically, one will appear from Japan in a week.
Sometimes the problem lies within the dealership, where a part never got ordered, or got misplaced.
I also would want to question the dealer himself, as to why the fuel pump needs to be replaced - they very rarely go bad, and are usually replaced because of improper diagnosis. Sometimes a tech will just shotgun the repair, and order any and all parts that may be related, without thorough diagnosis, and then take it apart and replace everything. And you pay for it all, whether you needed it or not.
You can call American Honda Powersports Customer Service at 866-784-1870 and they can verify the order, and initiate the search.

Ordered from Partzilla Monday. Received update today. Backorder. No ETA. So I guess I will be calling that Honda customer service phone number. FYI the dealer said they would be more than happy to install it if I could get my hands on one.

This is interesting because i only recently (a few weeks ago) had a fuel pump replaced on my CB and the shop had no problem at all getting it in a hurry. there were lots of other things he subsequently had to order....but the fuel pump was quick.
P.S. out of curiosity, what's actually up with your fuel pump? how many miles on the bike, ect?

I always ask for the old parts back as well now. An independant shop that I used to use back in the 90's for my car that had great service for years for several members of my family suddenly started to find all kinds of problems every time I took my car in for routine maintenance (I had no garage at the time to do it myself). After the third visit I started getting suspicious. Turns out they had sold the business to a new owner and afterwards they seemed to ratchet up the pressure to sell items such as wiper blades, coolant flushes, shocks, etc. when you just went in for an oil change.
When they tried to tell me my water pump needed to be replaced (after the dealer had done it a year prior) I suspected they were full of poop but did it anyway. I put a small dot of whiteout on the underside of the pump and let them have a go. When I got the car back I asked for the old part and they said they had already thrown it away. I then crawled under the car in their parking lot and saw the white dot and went back inside to ask for a refund. They said they couldn't do it because the work was done and the part was already installed. After taking him out and showing him the whiteout I put on it, he totally threw the tech under the bus and issued a refund. Their business closed down about a year later. No tears were shed.

Get that in writing on the Work Order, - AND - look them in the eye TWICE so they understand that you'll be expecting them after the work is done.
This is what the past 20 years has come down to with lazy service management.
