Just answering a question above that was asked.

As long as the side stand isnt down.

Ferret... I’m not tracking....my bike sitting on the side stand in neutral does not need the clutch pulled in to start it. Turn key on. Hit starter. Motor runs...with side stand down.

I did wonder as I saw on the wiring diagrams a clutch switch but I've never pulled the clutch to start the bike so I didn't know whether you were supposed to and the previous owner had bypassed it.

I'm not entirely sure, the bike was working fine and then when playing with the headlight wiring I did switch the switch on and off for the first time so you may find the switch just hasn't been used in 8 years (up until that point I hadn't used it as I just use the key) so maybe it was just a bit of corrosion/being disturbed after being sat in the same position for so long.

Correct.... but if it is on the center stand and the side stand is deployed it won't start. Hmm lemme think about that... maybe it will start, but will die as soon as you put it into gear.

I retract my statement, you are entirely correct sir

(says the ferret who has been known to have bike upright and running after taking it off the sidestand, without putting the sidestand up, and then trying to take off..... only to have it die when put into gear.)

Yes. It's the putting it into gear when the side stand is down that stops it dead. Please do not ask me how I know. Read the Ferret's reply instead.
