Do your gears "clunk" while downshifting?
#21
So, no takers on the "1.5 clunk" remark? (see above)

I totally believe in the 1.5 clunk. Somewhere either way back in this thread or in another thread there was a post from someone that referenced shifting from 2nd down into first at something like 30 - 35 mph if my memory serves ....

That has to be like a 2.5 clunk at least right ?

And proves the veracity of the 1.5 clunk at the same time

Not sure the cause, but it almost feels the gears get in to no-man's land funk being that it has to cross the neutral zone.

Is a clunk like a hole? In other words can you have half of one?

That said, I know what you mean, GO: there sensation when you change from 2nd to 1st while moving is different to shifting down through the other gears.

Sorry Django, good information, but that is not what I was referring to.

Cormanus is closer in his question; correct in procedure. The behaviour is unique in that sometimes when shifting down from 2 to 1 at very reasonable low speed (who knows? - maybe higher speeds too) there is the initial "Django clonk", but soon followed by an unhealthy sounding second "half" clank. Hard to describe in words, however, the feeling from the saddle is somewhat like, "Did something breakthrough my gearbox?".

In my limited knowledge, it almost sounds like some mechanics are "bouncing" off of something else internally. Cannot recreate on demand, but it gets one typically when least expected.

BSoB - Like your enthusiasm for the 1.5 or 2.5 clunk. Smile However, I believe we ultimately don't want them. Dodgy

End game:

Everything Honda in the gearbox still runs beautifully. Just wanted to share this odd, uncommon behaviour. Hopefully no long term issue.

I’ve only experienced that if I downshift to 1st to soon, rpm too high or speed too high.

For those who are concerned about 1.5 and 2.5 clunks, I will be listing some magnetic half clunks (0.5) in the classified section. They can be added at your next oil change to make full clunks. These are real neodymium magnetized partial clunks. Please specify if 5-speed or 6-speed.

Also selling 12 oz. bottles of TRUE, in case your wheels are out of true.

Just getting confused to which clunk group I may belong.. mine only clunks by 1.48
As to 12 oz bottles; grind your RLETs to powder and add it with next oil/filter change = kills all clunks.
