Fuel pump noise?
#1
The "priming" noise my fuel pump has always made with key on during the gauge sweep has changed, after riding a ways, to a louder and more shrill noise when restarting a warm engine after, say, a fuel stop. If I go out in the garage and try it cold, it's normal. Any ideas? I have about 3000 miles on it.
It doesn't seem to continue after startup that I can hear, anyway. I plan to keep riding and just see what happens, especially if nobody else has noticed this. Thanks

Is it under warranty? If you can repeat this consistantly, I'd show my dealer. Fuel pumps are expensive.

No warranty on my '13 purchased used. I will just monitor it for now. Thanks.

Cold gas pumped from underground tanks?

No, happens other than at fillups, but thanks for the thought! I was thinking at one point it was a hotter than usual that caused it with the pump located right over the cylinders. I am going to try it again this afternoon and see what happens. It's definitely not subtle. hopefully it will just go away Smile

I would remove it, soak in Techron for a week. And then pulse with voltage while in Techron then reinstall and see if that cleans up the noise

I have a '13 and the fuel pump noise is different sometimes on mine, but I pay no attention to it, I figure it's the nature of the beast.

The sound of my fuel pump varies also (2014 Dlx). Sometimes it is just louder. The first time it got really loud was when I had around 1,500 miles on the bike, so I took it to my dealer to see what they thought. They ensured me that the sound was "normal", and they demonstrated that a used, 2013 CB1100 on the floor sounded nearly identical. I have found that it sounds louder when the fuel tank is nearly empty, compared to a full tank, and this might be because the empty tank resonates the sound louder. I have 13,000+ miles on the bike now and the pump is still working.

Thanks for the input, guys. I have ridden for several days and several hundred miles since I last noticed it. Seems the forum ju ju has banished it to whence it came. I will poke this thread again if I experience any side of the road time, or if it comes back worse, whatever.
It's comforting to note there hasn't been a rash of ANY real problems with this bike. When I was shopping last year the Guzzi forum was kind of amusing. Apparently you almost needed to be a technician just to get a new bike home in some cases. Not bashing! Rboe alert! Smile

Lol try a Ducati forum. My son rides a Monster 696. He sent me a link to that forum one day in which 5 out of the first 6 threads having to do with their motorcycles mysteriously not starting all of a sudden.
