I'll be 82 my next birthday and a lot of my care on my motorcycles is done lying on the floor, from which it is not so easy to get up again. When someone tells you they are "getting too old for a motorcycle," it usually isn't because they can't ride it, it is all the other stuff. And the eyes don't see so good anymore, etc, etc.
I hope I am still riding at 82 Nach. Well done.

So apparently the amount of oil to use which is listed in the manual that came with my 2014 is incorrect.
The CORRECT AMOUNT OF OIL, unless dismantling the engine, should always be less than 4 quarts.
In the future, after draining the old oil and changing the filter, I will put in 3 quarts, and then slowly add the remaining amount according to what the sight glass says.
I have no problem with the sight glass vs dip stick. My problem is that the quantity of oil listed in the manual is incorrect, and finding the correct amount here on the forum is sort of like finding a needle in a haystack.
Start with 3 quarts... Gradually add more until the sight glass is reading correctly.

Sight glass and your procedure works for me.
