Dear Madam or Sir:
I am the owner of a 2014 Honda CB1100 Deluxe motorcycle (one of four Honda motorcycles I presently own), and I am contacting you to request that American Honda perform repairs to correct the unstable idle problem I am experiencing that plagues many of the 2014 CB1100 Deluxe motorcycles sold in America; I am requesting that American Honda perform the same repair that has been performed in both the United Kingdom and Taiwan.
In summary:
• My bike developed this unstable idle condition over a year ago, and it comes and goes; sometimes stalling, and sometimes idling at 1,500 RPM.
• I have discussed this problem with the service department at Fun Bike Center in San Diego Ca. (where I purchased this bike new) on three separate occasions, and their response is that American Honda has not issued any service bulletins or recall notices concerning this problem, and there is nothing that they can do.
• This is a known problem that is being reported worldwide – The United States of America, Taiwan, Germany, France, and Belgium, to name a few countries. As proof, please visit: http://cb1100forum.com/forum/index/php, and go to the Section “Mechanical and Technical” and select the thread “15’ CB1100 Idle speed unstable problem” where you will find over 200 posts from CB1100 owners discussing this problem.
• Most of the problems reported outside of the United States are for engine stalling, and most of the problems being reported in the States are for engines idling at or above 1,500 RPM (my bike has experienced both, and the problem comes and goes.)
• Post #53 from the above is from Belgium, and provides a link to a video displaying a CB1100 with the stalling problem.
• Post #195 from the above is from the UK, and the author quotes Honda UK: “…the ECM was rewritten as the parameter for the idle control valve was slightly incorrect. It was a very straight forward update and should be trouble free now.”
• Post # 203 from the above is from Taiwan, and states “Here in Taiwan, recently HONDA released new (revised) ECU program to solve CB1100 idle speed problem…”.
I am confident that a similar solution to the one provided by Honda of UK and Honda of Belgium (ECM remapping) can be provided to all of the American CB1100 owners who are experiencing similar unstable idle problems, and I would like this fix to be applied to my bike as soon as possible. Please contact me at your earliest possible convenience to discuss this topic in further detail, and to arrange for Honda to remap my ECM similar to the remapping that has been performed in the UK and Taiwan.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Kelly. 866-784-1870, extension 13810.
