an extra 30 lbs for dual exhaust Deluxe model
#1
The spec for regular black '14 Honda is 540 lbs wet, but 570 lbs for dlx (deluxe or ES) model. I wonder why so much weight for an extra exhaust?

I am considering trading my '13 for the deluxe model later this year, and can't find any dealer around here to carry it and would like to test ride before switching.

Many reviewers of the DLX say the bike is more stable on highway and handle better, can Ferret confirm this?

The silver engine and 6th speed are what i am after for an extra $5.5K, but my current CB is in excellent condition, I wonder whether I am abusing my wallet. If closing my eyes, they feel the same, will extra cost worthy my wet dream?

While I have no grounds to confirm this, I can't see how it could be considered more stable on the highway. Was any of the geometry changed? Maybe the extra weight & lower cruise rpm helps it feel better planted.

The 6th gear would be really nice. I've been wondering if a 6-spd gearbox could be installed on a 2013.
(But even if so, I can't imagine it would be worth whatever Honda charges for a new box).

Regardless, I'm still totally happy with the bike. It treats me quite well.

For reasons unknown to my I feel that the 2014 DLX is better "planted" on the road.
I also think that the bike looks much better than the 2013 with silver wheels, silver engine and 4 into 2.
The side covers on the 2013 are nicer imo as they show the frame better.
Is it worth the money to trade in your 2013 ? that all depends on you.

I really wanted the 6th gear so I waited for the 14,but I hardly ever get into 6th with my riding style. I think the 5 speed is all most people will ever need or want. I think I would be just as happy without the 6th gear, now the style of the DLX is a different story..Thumbs Up

When I bought my 13, I felt as though it could use a couple of improvements to make it the right bike for me. Maybe a 6th gear,(I was always flippn up the gearshift thinking I had one more gear) and a gear indicator would be nice, a duel exhaust would look good, silver motor and rims would be a plus. Then the 14 came out and I had thought they read my mind! So I got the 14 DLX. I still have both.
At Highway speeds they handle the same. I enjoy riding both, but I prefer th DLX mostly because of of the 6th gear. It just feels right. My son likes the 13 better because he says it has a quicker throttle response. I don't think it's the motor as much as the gear ratio difference.
As far as the wallet thing, I'm glad I got the 14, and would have traded in the 13 but my son (22)said that now we can ride together and plan some trips. How can you say no to that. So I kept it.

I just happened to get both with the 14, that's all.

Had I not bought my 2013 and had the choice i would strongly consider the DLX However, the 2013 with the Black Yoshi and black side covers is really growing on me and gets a lot of looks. The 2013 is worth about 5500 on a trade. Three years from now it will only drop about $1500.00 and you could pick up a DLX for $5000.00 Hold on to the original and buy one then, you'll have two for the same priceThumbs Up

That's an interesting figure. I think there's more to the weight increase than just the exhaust system..
off the top of my head I can think of:

6 speed transmission in instead of 5. There's got to be more metal running around to make that happen.

Aluminum sprocket cover instead of plastic.

Bigger fuel tank. There's got to me more metal used to make it bigger.

Have I missed anything else ?
