Tamper proof oil filler cap
#31
I can confirm that the Tiger 1200 oil cap, all models 2018-2021 fit too. Wink In fact the Triumph cap is matt black plastic and it matches the satin/matt'ish black engine paint better than the shiny Honda plastic. Yes, OK, I'm bored and it's a slow day at work.

I can't look at my bike when it's a slow day at work, Tev. I start finding more things that I think I need to fix on it.

This is a beautifully made metal cap which is much more attractive than the original plastic one. If you require a tamper resistant oil cap, this one is a bit trickier to open than the original one. I use a pliers protected by a cloth. Thus you could say it is somewhat tamper proof.

Thanks for the tip

I'd suggest silver as the anodizing would mar where the tool rubs.

Cheers I'll bear that in mind

Sounds like you need one of these for the CB1100:

Whoa, that is ugly! I was thinking something much more stylish and original Honda. My sister used to commute through London on a CG125 and a ladies clothing was always protected from that filthy oil. Smile

I guess a partial compromise for not having a shaft final drive? Convenient and functional, but anchors the eyes.

Sobering thought.

Thought about your remark again. I tend to say that there is - like in many other things - a [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risk_matrix]risk matrix to be seen and acknowledged. Many parts on a m/c can be tampered with, but in many cases it ain't matter either. Either the cost of repair is low, they don't pose a risk to your life, or they are immediately visible and so the tampering will not cause further damage. Anything where the cost (virtually, or real) of fixing it is extremely high (like sand in your gear box) is worth a second look, even if the risk of it ever happening is very low. Along these lines, I would not worry about bleeder screws (you'll feel it immediately) or spark plug caps (no damage, just doesn't start). BUT the idea of securing the oil filler cap AIN'T a bad one.

What would the evil tamperer tamper with so far as the oil is concerned? I wouldn't think that they'd try to siphon the oil from the filler. It's not that hard to just remove the drain plug if they have their heart set on that. Or are they adding dish detergent? Are they trying to sabotage the bike so that you crash? If somebody wants to do me in, I'd think that tampering with my oil would be a rather inefficient way to do it. If somebody wants to annoy me, I'd think that it'd be a rather inefficient way to do it. Lots quicker and easier to just slash the tires or cut a control line / cable.

What do I know though? I'm one of those who is annoyed by wheel locks on cars. The odds of me misplacing the socket when I need to change the tire are exponentially higher than somebody ripping off the wheels to my 5 year old VW GTI with dings all over them.

That evil tamperer is a person who knows you and hates you. Could be the noise coming from your exhaust at night, could be personal, heck, what do I know - you kissed the girl he wants. He isn't going to mess with the drain plug and get his knees dirty, he is going to put sand in your gear box, through the oil filler plug. Doesn't take time, doesn't take money, doesn't take effort. And you will "get his" very expensive message because you won't know before it is too late.
Now don't get me wrong. I am not going to do anything to secure my oil filler plug. I just don't park in bad neighborhoods. I was just trying to answer to LongRanger who said, where do you stop if you start. The answer is, some anti-tamper measures are "efficient", many are not.
