Agreed. The DLX stands tall.

Ferret. Thanks for the side by side comparison pics. Interesting contrasts. That new tank really does change the overall appearance of the bike. In particular the appearance of the bikes stance.

Looks like identical seats in the photo.

the rear edge of the 17 EX is sloped while on the 14 dlx is straight up and down. That should have little to nothing to do with the base though

How does the build quality compare to your 2014 models?

Interestingly in the side-by-side photos, the 2017 EX looks "lighter" than the 2014 DLX. I know I've bagged a bit on the shape of the '14 DLX tank in the past, but I too prefer the looks of it over the '17 EX tank. For whatever reason, the new tank simply looks like it was designed for a completely different bike to my eyes. My favorite component on the new bike remains the brushed aluminum side panels, I really like those a lot.

The headlight has a spiral LED daytime running light. I have not walked down the road to see how effective it is on the highway.

The little green LEDs at the bottom of the dash to let you know you left the signal lights flashing are hard to see while wearing sunglasses and force you to take your eyes off the road. I notice the large flashing orange front signal light before the dash light.

The digital gear indicator is also hard to see in some daylight conditions, and the clock impossible. Maybe its time for a visit to my eye doctor.

The gas tank is designed to provide a 190 mile/300 kilometer range. I get flashed at 250 kilometers, so that's is a lot of warning to find a gas station. The tank has an aircraft styled filler cap. My gas mileage is improving. On my last ride I got 22 kilometers per liter, 62 miles per Imperial gallon.

Both mufflers hug the machine tighter for better clearance. The chrome headers are doubled walled to stop heat discolouration. Unfortunately small fried bugs take an inordinate amount of time to polish off.

The assisted slipper clutch requires 16% less effort. Certainly is easier than my CB500XA was, and the shifter is as well.

The chain guard is aluminum not plastic.

Owners are encouraged not to buy a lot of accessories for this machine, unless they are mag wheels. The Dunlop tires and tubes the bike requires are not available in North America, so we will have to trade in our 2017 EXs on something else after the riding season is over. Dumb Honda Engineers! Not my actual words.
Hey Nortoon,
I found the same issue when looking at the digital readout. I only find it difficult when I wear my 'polarized' sunglasses. I'll never get polarized glasses again.

I'm a sucker for those wire wheels, and for that seat. I'd have them on my DLX.

It's kind of hard to make a real comparison... one bike is nice and shiny while the other one looks like it's been ridden in the rain... a lot! Lol....
