Some observations on the 2017 EX ..some pics added
#1
Got to see the 2017 CB1100EX yesterday. My dealer got one in and sold it same day, ironically to the same guy I sold my Honda CB350F to many years ago. At least I got to look at it today. It is, as stated before by others, much better looking in person than in the pictures. The tank is still rather oddly shaped to me, but it would be hard to deny the richness of the paint. I was amazed at the number of changes to the bike and the only things left over from my bike ( the 14 dlx) would appear to be the motor and frame ( and even they may be different) and fenders. Nearly EVERYTHING else is different..wheels, forks, triple clamps, headlight, turn signals, instruments, caliper mounting, seat, taillight, side covers, exhaust, passenger peg mounting brackets, air cleaner covers. It is virtually a new model . Very nice.

I left a card with CB1100forum.com on it in his sales packet, so maybe he will stop in.

I took a bunch of comparison pics but been kind of busy and havent down loaded them yet.

Engine has the new slipper clutch and air box. Frame geometry on the EX is the same as ours... the RS has new frame with sportier geometry. Both models have the new triple clamp with bar mounts moved forward. The EX shock springs have more coils spaced closer together.

The forks have Dual Bending Valves to generate both compression and rebound.

The headlight has a spiral LED daytime running light. I have not walked down the road to see how effective it is on the highway.

The little green LEDs at the bottom of the dash to let you know you left the signal lights flashing are hard to see while wearing sunglasses and force you to take your eyes off the road. I notice the large flashing orange front signal light before the dash light.

The digital gear indicator is also hard to see in some daylight conditions, and the clock impossible. Maybe its time for a visit to my eye doctor.

The gas tank is designed to provide a 190 mile/300 kilometer range. I get flashed at 250 kilometers, so that's is a lot of warning to find a gas station. The tank has an aircraft styled filler cap. My gas mileage is improving. On my last ride I got 22 kilometers per liter, 62 miles per Imperial gallon.

Both mufflers hug the machine tighter for better clearance. The chrome headers are doubled walled to stop heat discolouration. Unfortunately small fried bugs take an inordinate amount of time to polish off.

The assisted slipper clutch requires 16% less effort. Certainly is easier than my CB500XA was, and the shifter is as well.

The chain guard is aluminum not plastic.

Owners are encouraged not to buy a lot of accessories for this machine, unless they are mag wheels. The Dunlop tires and tubes the bike requires are not available in North America, so we will have to trade in our 2017 EXs on something else after the riding season is over. Dumb Honda Engineers! Not my actual words.

Does anyone know if the 2017 seat would fit a 2014 standard?

Personally, side by side, I like the looks of the older tank better.

I did too carguy. The new model is sportier looking. The speedo and tach have real cool faces. Even the horns are different. (someone on here at one point was looking for chrome rimmed horns). The grab rail is sweet on the new one.

the salesman told me it sounded better, but we never got around to firing it up because I was anxious to take a test ride on the VFR.

Lucky you! I dropped by the local motorcycle megastore this morning to see if they might have one. This place is getting famous for its clueless sales people. While looking over the Honda section I asked the sales guy if they'd be getting a new CB1100. He said, "Honda doesn't make them anymore". I had to take him over to the big touchscreen display with all of the current models. After all that, the guy assures me that they will be getting as soon as they are available, to which I pointed out the that other dealers have already been selling them for a few weeks.

I guess I'll just have to visit the Honda-only dealer across town. They always carry every model and managed to sell a lot of CB11s in the past. I'd really like to see one of them in person.

Local dealer (Fredericksburg Motor Sports) just got in their first 2017. Somethings I like, some I don't. Build quality is excellent.

The sound of the EX is not what I expected from a new Honda. It is louder at idle, growls on acceleration, and when warm burbles and pops when throttled down in first. No Staintunes required for this model.

I warmed up my CB500XA in the laneway, but back the EX onto the street before starting it. I live on a street of retirement bungalows. Nobody has shaken a fist at me yet, but they all know I have a new motorcycle.
