After than that is it really just looks, different amount of spokes and the tank etc. One the whole I can't imagine the experience will be radically different, mainly visual.
Ok, thanks for reply. Manufacturers always get new set of “rules” from governments, to reduce emissions. So I was wondering if there were made any changes regarding air flow/filter, carburatiin etc. which in our opinion have a negative effect, thus pointing to keep the 2016 model.
Minor changes you won't notice- the airbox intake boot was redesigned for less noise, the exhaust is different. The steering head angle is different.
You will notice the improved suspension. They also added a slipper clutch- so if you downshift aggressively, that's a good thing to have. The headlight is different....and *expensive* if it fails.

He will definitely notice the different exhaust. Different look, sound, and feel.

I still browse, but there hasn't been much to comment on lately, so browsing is all it's been for me.
Otherwise, no big news. Observing life rather than participating in it much anymore.

Was hoping youd be back to riding by now

Doubtful I'll ride again. Besides the fact that I can't use any normal shoe on my mangled foot, never mind a motorcycle boot, my friends and family would kill me if I bought another bike and started up again.
I doubt that you'd remember such a silly detail, but when I was forced to sell my bikes I also sold or gave away every bit of my riding gear, as a deterrent to giving in to the motorcycle bug the next time it would inevitably bite. The thinking being, it would be one thing to go ahead and plunk down the $$ to get another bike. I could simply go snag a used SV650 or something, and it wouldn't be a major commitment.
Having to replace thousands and thousands of dollars worth of all that gear, though, some of which was custom tailored to fit me?
I knew I wouldn't do that. That was my safeguard against myself.
So, instead, I continue to let the MX-5 pull that duty. I ended up swapping the red one for a white one a few months ago, but it's essentially the same thing.

Yes, I remembered that you had sold your gear. My riding buddy who I rode to Cali with in 2014 has quit several times, did that too, but then he'd buy another bike and gear, sell it and the gear, and repeated that several times. I think he's done for good now, but he keeps threatening to buy another bike.
Sorry to hear that you will never ride again VLJ, I know you were a true enthusiast.

Despite reading this, it is still good to hear from you and know that you're "out there". The Mx-5 looks like a fine vehicle to drive.

mickey, yep, I've done the sell everything/buy it all back again gambit a few times with guitar gear, and I vowed to stop doing that following the last round.
So far, so good, guitar-wise. Haven't sold anything in a decent while. Anything I sell or give away now, I won't replace.
I vowed not to do that with the bikes, especially the gear. No way I was going to replace all my various suits, jackets, Arai helmets, cold weather electronics, gloves, linings, etc. That'd be crazy, even for me.
Also, nothing has come out recently that has really lit my fire. The NT1100 looked interesting, in a solid, steady, reliable, kinda boring way, but it never arrived on our shores. That was the only large bike that caught my eye. The only new sport-tourer, anyway. Otherwise, it would have been a Speed Twin, or one of its cheaper, simpler, slower Bonneville siblings, or one of the new middleweight P-Twins from Honda or Suzuki. Or, most likely, an old SV650, the obvious choice in a cheap used ride.
If all I had to buy was the bike, I probably would have done so by now, and it probably would have been a $2-3K used SV650. The boot thing, though, I don't know how to get around that one. Any motorcycle boot will rip the back of my reconstructed heel right open.
In the end, I suppose the answer I always come up with is the same answer I always have to ask, which is...why? Why bother with the hassles and expense, just to put around again on the same backroads I've ridden a million times, that I can still have decent fun on with the MX-5?
Putzing around slowly on a sporty bike wouldn't be all that much fun, and I have zero interest in going fast again, so that's out.
My red CB1100 would have been the one.
Duh, right?
