Extended Warranty
#1
I’m curious. How many have sprung for the extended warranty and why? Also if you decided not to why not?

I’m not an extended warranty person. I very rarely if ever buy them mainly because I don’t think they’re worth the cost. I wouldn’t normally consider one for this bike, I know it’s well built and expect it to go 100,000 miles with little trouble. There is one thing I’m worried about though and that is the painted engine. I’m starting to read reports of chipping and such and it worries me a bit. I’m not even sure it would be covered under warranty although you would think it would be considered a factory defect. So I’d like to hear your thoughts about both subjects, the extended warranty and the paint. Thanks!

I would strongly think that they would consider that environmental and/or cosmetic and not cover it.

It is a machine, meant to be used- it will get dirty, scratched, smudged, eventually faded, oxidized, etc.

Worrying about it will drive you crazy- so just learn to accept that it is a normal part of life, just like how we age and get 'faults'.

Yes I did 2x, for my 2013 - 4 year and 2014 - 3 year Honda Protection Plan bought from Honda dealer.
I am automotive and couch with Diesel endorsement license tech., and the only reasons I bought it were : worry free when long distance travel, do not want to dig too deeply if troublesome, easier to resale with HPP... and I have never had any type of extended warranty for my cars.

I bought one for one of my German bikes and it paid off handsomely once my servicing dealer knew I had it. All sorts of components were suddenly deemed to be "defective" and were replaced under warranty. Who knows? For me, the CB is one bike I didn't consider a warranty for.

If extended warranties -- or any kind of warranty -- were a good deal for the consumer, *nobody* would sell them.

When I went out on a limb and bought a Ural in ‘12 I bought the extended warranty, and considered it money well spent due to the brands reputation for poor workmanship and dubious quality. Never broke down and only warranty claim was for the u joint on drive shaft not having a grease zerk. Still don’t regret spending the money ($800), too many horror stories about that quirky and awesome bike.

On modern vehicles I am of the opinion that the engineering and craftsmanship are at a high enough level to render the extended warranty a poor investment for the consumer. A lemon will let you know quickly.

I bought the Honda Care extended warranty with my CB1100. My main concern was the idle speed instability problems some of our forum members were experiencing.
Otherwise, I never broke even on any automotive extended warranty purchases. Came close once when our Honda Odyssey broke down during a vacation trip.

I got the 5 year unlimited mile factory warranty on my new 2014 standard leftover for an additional $6.00 per month. Transferrable for free to the next owner if needed. Why would you not opt for this awesome piece of mind and killer sales tool?

If it were only $6pm I'd consider it. Components are expensive and thing do go wrong, regardless. Also, it depends if you have the tools and experience to sort out small probs. I don't mind fixing things and have most tools to do a job. But if your not used to maintaining your own bikes then a just a decent set of sockets will set you back two years of monthly payments at that price...

I've had a few issues, the low idle issue, paint started coming of the engine within a year, spokes tarnished at the mere sight of water, Kill Switch broke. Bike isn't 4 years old yet.

Little things, but it would be nice to get them sorted by the dealer.

The silver paint flaking off the barrels is the biggest annoyance. Really poor show...

Couldn’t agree more. So much for build quality.
