Some people are just incapable of self-governance. You can recognize them because they are the same people who don't take the shopping cart back to the cart corral at the supermarket.
Lazy, selfish and entitled?

We can't pick our neighbours, but in every neighbourhood there always seems to be a "family" who thinks they need to be seen and heard. So maybe add "lack of self-esteem", and therefore, "fear" to that list.

I don't think so. I think somewhere along the way they decided the world was a zero-sum game where the goal is take and do as much as you can get away with, because if you don't somebody else will and you'll just miss out or worse: have it taken from you or done to you. Or, you'll obediently follow rules that nobody else does, and end up feeling cheated and stupid for going along with the program that others flouted.
It doesn't occur to them that incivility breeds incivility and the more we do it to each other, the more we do it to each other and the worse it gets for everyone. They would be the first ones to complain if the store put up bollards to prevent the carts from leaving the store.

I was riding down to Asheville a few weeks ago to visit our Western NC chapter and stopped at Sheetz for gas. A fellow on a very chopped bike was in front of me in line, looking every bit the 1 percenter. Oily jeans, leather vest, spiked Nazi helmet. The bike had a tall sissy bar made of rebar and the tank was properly dented up and sported a winged emblem of some sort. No muffler at all, just a straight pipe. All in all, very impressive. As I waited, I gave the bike a closer look and was surprised to see it was a Yamaha TW200 motor on a majorly modified frame. As he pulled slowly away, I had to admire the effort he had put into his image. And that little motor was making an impressive racket!

holy cow. it's not uncommon to see that done to an XS650 or old Triumph bonneville twin....but a TW200? that little single? wow. just wow. it's a sin that you didn't get a picture of that.

After seeing the bike and his getup, I kept thinking of Eric Von Zipper from Beach Blanket Bingo.

That makes me think of litterbugs. I think they run in the same packs.

One of the things I miss about getting older is hearing. I just sold a 1200 Sportster which made the most beautiful music. I am still getting used to the music my CB makes, but it is growing on me. Yesterday I spent half a day reading exciting posts about a certain muffler before realizing that company had gone out of business in 2018, so not much chance of having that music from my bike. Not sure where I was going with this, which may also be related to growing older. Anyway, this forum is fun and no matter how old I get I still find bikes and bikers fun. Thanks.

Eh, it never ends, and life will never be perfect. The loud Harlista on my cul-de-sac moved away, and when a Tesla moved in, I figured that we'd get some peace and quiet. But, the Tesla guy runs a personal training service out of his garage, so now we hear a bunch of Workout Bros grunting and dropping weights.
And, the drug dealers across the street finally moved away, so no more midnight police raids, but someone down the street from them decided that lighting off fireworks in the middle of the night is the right thing to do.
