CB400 Track Hack

I'm very slow with some projects, you know how it is, other stuff gets in the way. Finally have the little 400 rolling on it's own wheels again ... here's a few pics.

The 99% finished product needs just a few tweaks here and there to finish it - new or rebuilt rear shocks, front brake pads, perhaps braided front brake lines. The bike now includes a second hand engine, reworked fuel tank with longer cuffs for taller riders' knees (son and I), reworked Ducati tail (had to cut the rear sub-frame), upgraded front suspension, cheap muffler, clip-ons, sticky Dunlop track/road tyres, removal of all lights, and a simple paint job.



The forks received my ex-cb1100 springs along with Racetech gold valves and 15W oil.



The second hand engine is low miles, works just like it should and looks good.



Now all I gotta do is lose these COVID kilograms acquired during our 7 month lock-down so I can fit back into my leathers to get it on the track!

Another piece of forbidden fruit here in the U.S. I did spot a CB400 at a local gathering spot for riders about a year ago. I chatted the owner up, who brought it into the states, and is riding it with a plate from another bike. It will be hell to pay if he's ever pulled over, but he is enjoying the ride hoping that day will never come! I sure would enjoy having one.

Another piece of forbidden fruit here in the U.S. I did spot a CB400 at a local gathering spot for riders about a year ago. I chatted the owner up, who brought it into the states, and is riding it with a plate from another bike. Yeah, I suppose the same type of character who pulls into an honor system pay parking lot but won't purchase a ticket. Karma will catch them in some other way eventually.

However yes, in the meantime enjoy that fruit!

As a lighter bike, it put me into idea of buying a CB400 from county of my origin, registered/insure there and enter Canadien roads as forever tourist????
Cannot have everything in our live.....

I like the way your friend thinks. Feel like the "hell to pay" would be worth for such a trivial violation in my humble opinion. Nay sayers need not respond ... my mind will not be changed

The fines for being pulled over by the police might not be as bad as the money you spend when YOU cause an accident with a bike without insurance , than there is $$$$ to pay ! I am not judging but a lawsuit could be very expensive. For many years I drove about 1500 miles a week with my UK drivers license , the car was insured by the company I worked for in Wisconsin and never had a problem , just some speeding fines with that license. Than one day a customer of mine said : The insurance Company might feel that they do not have to pay out as you do not have an valid USA license after already living in the USA for over 4 years. That made me think and than I had to take my drivers test for my car and motorcycle in NY. My wife was MUCH smarter as she had changed her license as soon after we arrived in the USA and at that time did not have to take a test , they just gave her a license after she showed her UK drivers license. Moral of the story : my wife is smarter than me but of course you already knew this because she married me......
