Hello everyone, Does anybody know if the universal mounting plate that comes with the Givi monolock case is made of plastic or steel. It looks like it mounts to your existing rear carrier with bolts, square washers and butterfly nuts. My concern is where the square washers fit into the recess of the adapter plate. If the adapter plate is thin plastic where the square washers attach, is the thin plastic strong enough to support the box and if the plastic becomes brittle over time, will the washers pull through? If the plate is made of steel, then I could see it being very sturdy. Thanks for any input.

Both of my Givi plates are plastic. I have had them on scooters, motorcycles, dirt bikes.
They are rock solid no problems at all.

I was hoping it would be metal. The Monokey on my ST is aluminum. And it is really sturdy.

Fred, mine's a Monolock and plastic. It wasn't thin and was, as Ole says, solid as a rock. When I got the CB and bought a specialist Daytona rack, it came with its own plastic mounting plate. That's solid and strong too. I've bounced it around a bit and had NL problems. As it fits the rack better, I've used that.

Popgun, I don't know whether the monokey plate is different. They are, as I recall, different systems.

I have a Givi on my other Honda, the NT700V.
I have both the Monokey and the Monolock plates. Both are thick, very solid, plastic.
I have both because I originally ordered the wrong plate for my top box and I couldn't do a simple exchange.
Does anyone else think the names are too similar, causing confusion?

The Monokey is the one that I don't need. If anyone needs one, I'll give you a great deal!

Yes they are confusing. The whole giviusa website is confusing. I ended up calling them for the info I needed and mentioned it was all confusing, and the they were, uhhhh, confused. Smile
