Saddles on the Brain - Corbin, K&H, and Daytona, Oh my!

Crazy thread title, but appropriate because my ADHD addled brain can't decide.

My big issue is comfort. At first, I was sure I needed a taller saddle to relief the strain on my knees and lower back. As I ride more, I find it to be more of an issue of me sliding forward. I think the K&H Tall or a Corbin with extra foam can give me better leg room between those two, it's a matter of aesthetics and cost. Only I can figure that one out, but I'd give the K&H the nod on looks alone.

My problem is choosing between comfort and looks. Sounds dumb since my initial reason getting a new saddle is for comfort. Problem is, I am smitten with the solo style saddles. The K&H appears to sit about 17mm taller than the stock North American market saddle, which is good, but I want to know if anybody has any issues with this saddle sliding you forward.

Last, the Daytona cafe style solo seat ( http://www.samurider.com/?p=16229 ) is offered by both Webike and Samurider. From what I can tell, it might be the same or barely lower than the stock saddle. However, it appears to offer a larger range of fore/aft space. Also, it might be fairly grippy with it's woven type texture. I can't find any reviews on this saddle. Anybody have one?

I got the corbin last saturday I installed it. I have yet to ride with it on .

K&H is a beautifully made seat, and while firm at first, comfortable and supportive. Takashi can order them with different heights, foam based on your weight, stitching, etc. If you are planning on keeping the CB1100 for the long run, while the seat is expensive, it's probably the best investment you can make.

The Daytona is lovely, and much less expensive, but not at the same level of quality.

Thank you for posting that picture. You have the same mirrors and Dart screen I have plus the Staintune I want, so your bike very closely resembles the desired look.

While I have no problem paying for quality, if I do, I want to make sure I like what I bought. Comfort comes first, but looks are important. The K&H should offer the comfort given you can have it customized. The downside is you can really strap luggage to the pillion pad. I think I have that taken care of with a single side saddlebag.

With the Corbin, I feel more confident I will be comfortable and I retain greater function with the usable passenger space. I find the standard tuck and roll a little showy for my taste. When I called Corbin to inquire about various custom options, they recommend the tuck and roll to prevent the leather from deformity and stretching with the foam as it breaks in. I posted about this on the Chip Beck spec Corbin thread. No word yet from Chip if he has experienced this.

If I could get some positive feedback on the Daytona, I would consider it, but it isn't at the top of my list.

Last, I might just have my stock seat reworked or find a spare for cheap.

Although an improvement over the stock seat ( its higher and no slide forward, seems wider )
It is not a miracle seat, comfort may be improved by 10 to 20% over stock.
I appreciated it most, when I temporarily went back to the OEM for a day and then realized I liked the K&H better.

I'm pretty tolerant of pressure on my backside so long as I don't have any abrupt edges pressing into soft tissue. Unfortunately, the way I slide forward on the stock seat, I get just that. I think if I could stay in the aft section of the saddle, I could be perfectly happy without any other improvements. Sounds like the K&H tuck and roll might aid in preventing the rider sliding forward.

Thanks, I will keep them in mind. They make some saddles with their own seat pans for higher volume bikes like my old V Strom. I liked my Sargent on that bike. I also am hesitant to send off my seat and not be able to ride since we don't have to pickle our bikes for Texas winters. If I decide to rework the stock seat, I'll probably pick up a spare stocker to send off.
