Anyone using the Hellfire Windshield?
#1

I got the Slipstream Hellfire Windshield when I bought my 2014 Standard after talking with the accessories guy at the dealership. I put it on a few weeks ago as it started to cool off. While it has helped keeping my core warmer on my commute (50 miles on interstate), it seems like it has made the handling a little rough. I am definitely getting more wind at my head, since it seems a bit louder and will kind of jostle my head around a bit.

This is my first experience with a windshield, so I am not sure if that's just the trade off, or if I maybe need to adjust the windshield by bringing it up a bit (if that's possible).

You might want to try adjusting the angle if you can. A trade off of a windshield is normally some noise and buffeting. I have a Dart Marlin windscreen and it took the pressure off of my chest but I do get more air at the helmet and more noise. I am grateful that I get no buffeting from the screen or very little.

Air bounces up and over a shield. It will only bounce so high (a few inches) so you must decide if you want to be in still air, which requires a shield you would have to look through, or your head in full but clean air, which requires a very short shield we have found to be best at 9 -101/2 inches above the ign. Or something in between those two and you get head wobbling and wave flapping noise, called buffeting.

Not familiar with that windscreen but a Laminar Lip attached to the top of your screen may help. Had one for the Quota and the MRA windscreen I have has one. It helps a lot but it depends on your body length.

I have tried two different wind screens on my CB. I sold one (full size) and the other (flea flicker) sits on a shelf in my garage. If you ride with a full enclosed helmet, the wind screen just causes too much noise and head buffeting.

I cannot say how they might effect an open face style helmet.

I've taken the face shield off on hot days, with the Plexistar windshield on. Necessary to take it OFF because if it's tipped UP, it catches the airflow off the windshield like a scoop.

It's no louder, and not much more wind on the eyes - depending on prevailing winds, which really do matter in this situation.

I tried a variety of rakes but nothing seemed to alleviate the noise - except foam earplugs. In the end, for hard riding, I-slab jaunts, and touring...the windshield is worth it. For afternoon rides at under-70 speeds...it's quieter with it off. Wind fatigue doesn't enter into it until about 60.

You could try an open-face helmet; but you might find the edge on the forehead catches the slipstream.

I am going to try that this weekend; thanks. I don't think I can get a lot of change in the angle, but maybe it won't take much.

Great explanation, thanks!

Thanks, I'll check that out.
