Specific glue for grips?
#1

My Type-two low handlebars from Samurider arrived this week and I'm getting ready to do the swap this weekend. Couple of questions:

Anyone who has done the swap, any tips, tricks or words of wisdom?

I'm pretty sure I need glue for the grips - I'm staying with the stock grips, what glue do you recommend?

Thanks-!

I recently did the same bar swap and installed a set of OE heated grips at the same time on my DLX. I just used some spray adhesive I had on hand and it worked fine. I don’t think the type of adhesive is critical but may determine whether you can/can’t remove the grip in the future.

As far as the bars go, two things:

Pay attention to your throttle cables. You may need to make a “major” adjustment at the throttle body end to compensate for the added slack and free-play that comes from the shorter rise and sweep of the new bars. I checked mine a bunch of times throughout assembly but when I did the final check after instaliing the tank, I had binding in full-right position. I maxed out the adjuster on the grip end and it cleared up. However, if I have to adjust again, I’ll be pulling the tank and electronics tray to get to the other end. Keep in mind, this was after adjusting the throttle body end to midrange to do the heated grips. Thus, you may not have the same issue since you won’t have to bust open the throttle tube/grip (should be able to slide bars in/out).

Secondly, depending on model, you may have to drill locator holes for controls. It’s not hard, just measure twice and drill once. I just marked the hole the same distance from end of bars and clocked to to same position as stock bar hole and that worked well.

Thanks Flytech!

My CB is a 2013, I'd love to avoid drilling new holes. It's not that I'm that lazy, I'm impatient.. The spray glue reminds of this scene from the Blues Brothers :-)

Whoever designed the holes needs to be executed.

I get the concept- it allows dealer shop monkeys to think even less when assembling the bike.

Really?

Uggh.....

At the detriment of the actual owner / end user....

Idiots.

Also pay attention when drilling the holes for the pin on the inside of the controls to sit in. They keep the controls from spinning on the bars. The holes are not the same distance from the end of the bar on both sides. You can get grip glue from cycle supply shops but it’s really just something that doesn’t create a permanent bond and can be removed if the grips need to come off.
