Looking for seat suggestions
#1

I've done a bit of forum searching, but didn't see anything which covered this particular case.

I'm pondering the purchase of a '17 EX. Took a test ride on one the other day and the seat appears to be putting pressure on my perineum; the effect of which, while relatively minor, became noticeable after only 15 minutes. Also it felt a bit cramped, and I've no idea what that'll be like after a few hours since for some reason the dealers look at you funny when you ask.

I've purchased custom seats before; I've got a Day-Long on my DL650 which is the best seat I've ever owned, but I think it'd look a bit wonky on a CB. I'm all about function before aesthetics, but if function can be solved in a way which also looks good, so much the better. So, here's the question: anyone else have this particular problem and, if so, with what seat did you replace the stocker? If it helps:

5-11
180
32" inseam

Goals:
* all-day comfort. Yes, I take breaks, but even so.
* probably some extra height; I'm spoiled by my Vstrom and am used to a far less cramped position. Looking at lower legs to help solve this, but I may need both.

Bonus points are awarded if you have such a seat, live in the D.C. Metro area and don't mind me coming out and throwing a leg over (not to take the bike out, just to check out the seat).

Cheers.

Questions:

1. What length extension did you opt for on your Varios? Notice any loss of lean angle? I don't generally scrape pegs, but still. Smile

2. Did you also install bar risers? If so, how high?

I am also 5'11 32 leg- and I find this seat perfect. Note that while the pegs are stock, the handlebars are not.

23 mm on the Vario and no risers , the handle bars are perfect for me.
I tried the 30 mm ones but that was too much.

If you're looking for all day comfort, what you need is wide and relatively flat (just like the old days). I found the stock seat OK, until I rode it on an 8 hr. day. The stocker angled me down toward the tank, and the skinny part of the seat.

I replaced it with a wide, flat Tiros K seat from Samurider (by way of forum member Kenny). It's flatter, firmer and taller and 10 hr. days are a piece of cake for me. Doesn't hurt that it also gives the bike a more classic look.

I think Samurider only sells a pricey leather version of that seat now, but I think you'd get similar results from something like the Daytona Cozy.

Quite a few forum members have gone with the tried and true Corbin. I think you have the right idea about trying one yourself. Seats (like windshields) are a very individual choice.

I ordered the flat seat from Samurider and requested it be made an inch taller. I'll report back once I get it. I'm 6'3 with a 37 inseam .

There is a thread on the taller seat from Samurider soon being available for the 2017 EX.

I am 6'2" tall and weigh 125 pounds. I would get uncomfortable after 1 1/2 hours of riding on the Honda seats on both my CB500XA and CB1100 EX.

I was lucky and bought a seat from a forum member that had been modified to be taller and softer. Looks similar to the K seat. I also added GenMar pull-back risers to get a more straight up riding position. Now I can ride comfortably for 2 hours.

I am 72 years young, and find that I get tired riding any longer than that. It then becomes an endurance test rather than an enjoyable ride in the country. It can also get dangerous if I am riding enthusiastically as my sweeping through the twisties becomes clumsy. So I always plan for 15 minute rest stops and 1/2 hour stops for breakfast and lunch.
