After all this it occurred to me to look in my Honda Owner's Manual. Duh!

The 2017 CB1100 CA (EX) and CB1100 NA (RS) fuel tank holds:
16.8 liters 4.44 US gallons 3.70 Imperial gallons
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<,
Nortoon,
Here is Honda Canada response::

"In response to your message regarding the fuel tank capacity of the 2017 CB1100EX model, it is 14.6L as stated in the Canadian brochure. The US model states the capacity at 4.4 gallons, or 16.6L.

The difference can be attributed to different regulations in Canada vs. USA."

I refrain myself from any comments what the fuel tank capacity is for 2017 CB1100EX/Canadian.....:Confused

So, it looks to me that you have illegal ROFL motorcycle in Canada...LOL
Hope to ride with you soon!!!Big Grin
Cheers,
Peter

Thanks for the information, Peter. The 2017 US EX model is said to have a tank capacity of 4.4 US gallons or 16.65 litres—see http://powersports.honda.com/2017/cb1100...ions.aspx. Yet the Canadian bike is said to be only 14.6 litres—see https://motorcycle.honda.ca/model/naked/cb1100a. The Canadian bike as shown has the new tank. On the Honda Japan website the EX and RS tanks are shown as being 16 litre capacity.
Something's not quite right.
Nortoon, what capacity is your tank?

The information released prior to the 2017 EX be sold stated that the seamless tank would hold 16.8 liters (4.4 US gallons). HondaProKevin also shows this in his specifications.

I believe the Honda Canada information is wrong. Probably someone updating the website did not realize the new lumpy tank is larger than the previous standard models 14.6 liter tank. One only has to look at the pictures of the two tanks to see the standard model tanks are much sleeker and do not have the top ridge.

Except for two short break-in rides, my gas mileage is always 21 kilometers per liter for my day long rides. I spend most of my day around the 100 KPH range. So my run dry range would be 353 kilometers (219 miles). I believe in the write-ups there was mention of Honda wanting to have a 300 km (200 mile) range. I top mine up at around 250 kilometers as I ride some pretty quiet back roads with no gas stations and little traffic.

My CB1100 EX is always loafing along at 2500 tp 3000 RPM when I look down. Every once in a while I give her a boot in the butt by downshifting a notch or two. Amazing what happens at 4000 RPM. I think if the YouTube testers would try the other 2/3rds of the rev range, they would find the CB will give your arms a good tug.

Took my ear plugs out at the local gas station after topping up and riding home a couple of blocks away. The new CB EX mufflers are noisy. Not obnoxious, but certainly not Honda like.

I just sent inquiry to Honda Canada about fuel capacity for 2017 CB1100EX .
Let's just wait and see what info will come back from them.

MY COMMENT:: for sure I know that 1L does NOT equel 1 gallon ROFLCelebrate

I really don't think Honda would make a gas tank different from the rest of the world just for Canada.

Hopefully I won't be proven wrong. I would not want to be stranded on the side of a desolate back road 4 hours from home.

100% AGREE WITH YOU. How many liters of gas do you need from completely empty to full ?...and your measure should be our final result. If you ever pumped in 14.3 - 15++ L, then your gas tank is bigger than 14.6 L - as specified by Honda Canada.Huh

Peter

On the back roads where I ride, gas stations are scarce. So now I always plan a gas stop near the 250 kilometer mark. I have never pumped more than 11 or 12 liters.

The Owners Manual is a little cryptic. But on page 23 it appears to say that when the last bar on the fuel gauge is flashing, if you push the right dash button once the available driving distance will be displayed. If you push the button again, the remaining amount of fuel will be displayed.

Unfortunately it has been my experience that the digital dash information is seldom readable. Something like trying to use a cell phone in the sun. So I would not take my eyes of the road long enough while driving to be able to read the information.

Apparently the information is available even before the gas gauge flashes. But I believe you have to do a lot of button pushing to get past the Trip A and B information to read it. If it still displayed while stopped, I might make note of it at a gas stop.

The fact that the Owners Manual says the fuel tanks capacity is 16.8 liters on both page 37 and page 134, is good enough for me.

Having the CB1100 tank with the smallest of capacities, I can only add that more frequent fuel stops simply provide me with additional chances to admire how great it looks. Wink Biker

I know that I'm probably repeating myself but man, I really like the look of the standard model with the white tank over the black engine with the black wheels and polished rims. I love the way the red behind the Honda wing emblem just pops on that tank.

28th of June 2017

G'day Peter, i'm interested to hear how far you get on a tank. I have ridden the tank to empty three times, twice as part of a plan close to home and carrying some extra fuel. The furthest is 314.5 km this was not an endurance attempt. Fortunately for me a FarRider came to my aid and I got to rendezvous with the rally Down Under later that afternoon carrying the recently purchased fuel can.

My bike was built in 2011.

Regards

Noroom...thats real close to 200 miles on a 3.7 tank. I never took my 13 that far, but I never ran out either. I seem to remember running over 180 miles before refilling and still having about 1/2 gallon left or about another 25 miles. So that would mirror yours closely.

The [url=http://www.honda.co.jp/CB1100/spec/]fuel tank specifications for 2017 CB1100's sold in Japan:

EX/RS: 16 Liters
Standard: 14 Liters

The [url=http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/range/street/cb1100-ex/specifications.html]website in the UK shows the capacity of the EX to be 16.8 Liters

I would think if the tank part numbers are the same, then the capacity would be the same.

Hi there, results will be coming soon... we presently have rain every other day, so I do not ride for pleasure.
Mid test, up to 100 km/h - slow roads = after 250 km, 2 solid gas gauge bars and 3rd flickers from time to time.
This Sunday, weather looks promising, and I should be able to make 600+ km.
Accuracy will be up to 90%..'cuz do not remember exact amount of gas pumped into gas tank = pumped 2x at the same time/pump
Cheers

I always top up the tank when I finish my day long rides, so it is full for my next ride.

The paper maps that I have printed all have the time and distance of the leg on them. So I know how long I can go before refueling. Any gas bills for the day are stuffed in my tank bag. After the ride I take an odometer reading.

The odometer reading and amount of fuel used is put in a maintenance spread sheet that I keep. On the last 6 rides I have always averaged 21 kilometers per liter, approximately 60 miles per Imperial gallon or 50 miles per US gallon.
