Mounting a GoPro on the CB1100. Some ideas.

And fun with editing ... a short clip using some old guitar tracks I made with a drum machine and "Photos" editing tool in Windows 10, which I didn't realize could edit videos.





I'm trying an aluminum handlebar mount next on the engine guard that's about 4 inches/11cm long ... ordered off ebay. The longer length will hopefully keep the camera cooler. You can get them for as low as $3 if you want to wait on a slow boat from China but mine is coming from the U.S. for $6. Diameter is around 31mm for drop bicycle bars but with old bicycle tubing wrap around the 1" engine guard I should be able to get a snug fit.

So to recap, ordered this aluminum mount off eBay for $6ish ...



It arrived yesterday ... missing a screw! Looks like it was boxed like that in the Chinese factory ... threads on that side weren't quite finished either. Got my money refunded. If you get one, use another seller ... plenty about.



So I went into my machine screw bin and found something that would fit ... wrapped some cut bicycle innertube around the engine guard to fit the diameter of the mount, and mounted like so ... it's a little farther away from the cylinder head with better cooler airflow around it, so the camera doesn't get as warm.



Here are the results ... I think the pile of innertube is allowing too much vertical vibration at certain RPMs and road conditions ...





So I dug into my expansive bicycle parts bin to find an old reflector handlebar mount with a firmer rubber sleeve ... cut off the reflector mount screw interface tabs so it would fit under the aluminum mount ... will test it this weekend ...



One thing I'll warn about this aluminum mount ... the threads are aluminum too, not steel, so looks like overtorquing can strip them easily (if I haven't already) ... also noticed they loosened a bit after a 70-mile run, so loctite would be in order.

So took this setup on a 300-mile or so run yesterday ... yes, the vibration kept backing out the screws a little (haven't used loctite in case the seller wants me to ship this thing back) so had to tighten it down every stop. Half the footage is pretty shaky ... when it's not shaky, it morphs and gets trippy. Let's call it "art."

Not sure if action cam footage is my cup of tea ... never quite the same experience as being there, and a lot like baby pictures ... really only interesting to the creators involved.
