Thanks for doing the legwork, 2017EX! I ordered one for both of my CBs.

I would be really shocked to find any metal on the magnetic drain plug from a CB 1100.

Any "significant" particles would have been likely in the very early mileage of your machine. Assuming great maintenance throughout, I would totally agree.

I would tend to agree with everyones observations, i.e., yes the most significant capture on the magnet is probably going to be during the initial break in, yes, after that probably what will be seen is normal wear resulting in a very fine black residue on the magnet, and yes I would be just as shocked to find a piece of metal on a magnetic drain plug as anyone else. That said, I did see first hand one time years ago, and more recently a couple of Youtube videos, where a small piece of a broken engine part had been captured by the magnet ( one looked kinda like a piece of valve guide ). In those instances, and assuming good oil change intervals, capturing a small piece of metal could alert the owner to an internal problem that might not otherwise be obvious. I just happen to like them ( magnetic drain bolts ), consider them cheap extra insurance, and personal preference. Magnetic or stock, one way is no more correct than the other, just an available option.

My 2004 Road King Custom came with a magnetic drain plug, it had a small amount of fuzz on the break in oil change. You would think all manufactures would supply them , cheap insurance .
