Where to mount auxiliary lights

Lol I am like an old person from Florida now. In my teens to 50s I didnt need any heated gear at all. At 60 I got my first heated gear but only used it if it got below 40. Now nearing 70 I find myself turning it on if it's below 50. It's got to be over 85 for me to wear my mesh gear.

Hmmm, I have heard this story more than a few times. Makes me worry.

In the meantime, I can't stand heat with humidity. Give me 10C (50F) any day, all day.

I had several bikes, none of which had heated grips, and never gave any thought about wanting them. Then BMWs, which had not only heaters but also temperature display. For the first time, I could see how cold it was, and I could flip a switch to do something about it. It became sort of Pavlovian. Below 50, you must be cold, turn on the heat.

I’m sure I will have forgotten that come winter. Besides, the CB doesn’t tell me if it’s cold...

I miss the ambient air temperature display on Aprilia instrument clusters. Aprilia went a little too far to show a snowflake icon when it got to freezing (0C or 32F). Nevertheless, useful in a glance for adjusting gear if you ride through a chilly region.

Sorry for bumping a zombie thread more than two years later...

Are you still using those lights on the side of your front fender? How are they working for you now a few years later? I have some Rigid’s on my Wrangler a-pillars and they are phenomenal with an upgraded headlight wiring harness and some Euro Cibie’s. If I could get even 25% of what my Rigid lights put out on the bike I would be ecstatic.

Yessir, they're still on there, and they haven't budged since I installed them almost two years ago. I wondered if they would, being on the non-sprung end of the forks, but they're holding just fine.

And, since they pretty much line up with the front tire when looking at the bike from most angles, they blend in and don't take anything away from the bike visually.

Since they lean with the bike, do you get a dead zone in corners just like the headlight or since they are so low or does being mounted low help mitigate that at all?

Also, do you get pretty deep shadows from objects due to them being down so low as well?

I presume you brought the leads back up the brake lines from the forks with zip ties?

I haven't really noticed any problems like dead zones or shadows. I have them angled out a bit to the sides, but not by much. Since I mostly ride on well-lit highways, like commuting home during the winter months, I don't have the advantage of seeing how well they'd work in a remote area. My best reference is a single-lane carpool overpass that I take that travels for about a mile over a major interchange. It's fairly dark up there, and the Rigids put out a good amount of light down the road and up both concrete barriers to the sides, even in dim mode, which I use at night during city riding so I'm not blinding anyone.

You are right, the wires run up the brake lines and into the headlight bucket for power. I have a small push switch on the lower triple clamp that I can reach down and tap to toggle between bright and dim for day and night riding.

The lights were mounted high on the front flasher arm (stark) aiming down on the road ahead.
The switches were mounted on the "Brake" & "Clutch" reservoir handlebar cap.

Nice. You must not even notice the sun has gone down with all those lights.

Those are sure beefy mounts for the Rigid Dually's.
