Just don't make my mistake when you get yours cut... don't stand there in front of the locksmith turning the key, expecting it to start the engine, and then complain to the locksmith that the key doesn't work. He'll roll his eyes and say "You know you have to push that button on the handlebar to start it, right?"
Lmao, where did you guys get the "code" for the key to work with your ignition? Is it a key code number on the frame or something?

Do you know how we would go about ordering a key by code of theres no code on the factory keys?

Like how would they know to cut it for our specific ignition

For many years, there has been no publicly available source for Honda (and most Japanese manufacturers) key codes. The simple, hand-held key cutting machines have been replaced with electronic cutting machines that are way too expensive for motorcycle dealers to buy.
Around 10 years ago, there were only 3 or 4 Honda dealers who had bought the machines. So the key manufacturers/sellers stopped providing any conversions between the manufacturer's code and the machine.

I just called around my area and found a dedicated locksmith shop who cut the key using one of my originals. I got the blank from Ebay.

That makes sense thats what I think they told me to do when I got my blank from the dealer.

Mind saying how much the locksmith charged you? I think I got quoted a price that I laughed at and thats why I never got it done

They use a tracing or duplicating machine.

Yamaha does not provide keys directly, instead directing their dealer to make inquiries to:

https://www.championkeys.com/product/keys-by-code/

They cut keys by code. I have spoken with them, and they can cut the new 2017 CB1100EX "wave-cut" keys.
Price is currently $45, a bargain if you've done the unthinkable.

My 2014 spare key is an Ilco HD 109 cut by Mr Lock for like $4, I carry it in my wallet.

Heck, this is going back to 2019 when I bought the bike and just wanted a spare to keep my original keys safe... couldn't have been more than ten bucks.

That's just a simple, straight-cut key for my 2013 CB. For one of the fancier ones, like a newer bike, I'm sure it would be a lot more. I had the metal "emergency" portion of a spare key cut for my car, and it was a lot more since it was a laser-cut key.

I'm gonna look that up. I'd like to have a throw away spare somewhere on the bike incase something happens to the key on long trips.
