Thanks for your input. Yet, I have a hunch it is not about (enough or too little) cooling, but about maintaining a constant cyl. head temperature regardless of power and the available air-stream. That's where air-cooling falls short on any of the 4 cylinders. Together the FI / ECU could even adjust to different temps acorss all 4 cylinders, ... as long as they remained constant.

If sales supported the effort to make it compliant they would do it.

We really have no idea how well the CB1100 has sold in Japan or China or Europe or other parts of Asia. We know that they've sent bike to Europe in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 so they must be selling enough to make them feel it's worthwhile. There are three styles of CB1100 available on the Honda Japan website, so they must be selling enough there to make it worth producing.

I know they have added water cooled heads to some of their models, but that rear cylinder must get really hot. I also know Harley is offering a water-cooled model, but a water-cooled Harley just isn't the same (like above responses indicate for our beloved CB1100).
Harley and Indian did incorporate many new technologies into modern engines to keep the rear cylinder cooler, from water cooled heads to switching off the rear cylinder. Don't forget that Ducati still has the air-cooled twin in the scrambler range both 800 and 1100, and tho the rear cylinder gets hot as hell, seizing rear cylinder is not a common issue.
Harleys problem with seizing cylinders in the twin-cam was not the lack of cooling actually but a poorly designed oil pump that wouldn't create enough pressure for the rear cylinder. Those things were sorted out.
Little rumours: I was told that Honda is doing the same in the new CB1100 where it will purposely kill the spark on cylinders 2 and 3 if the temperature becomes too high, now I have been trying to fact-check that for a while now without success, but will get to the bottom of it eventually, until then I won't believe it

The U.S. will be fine. Short of another civil war, the people are stronger than the government and the nation has so much momentum that only a natural or celestial event may intervene.
Motorcycles, on the other hand - and not just the CB1100, are fickle discretionary purchases. The health of the global economy will bias what is worth supporting and what can be deferred or cancelled.
Arguably in a global dump, small air-cooled lumps might be more coveted than their large displacement brothers and sisters.

With US I meant us the riders getting older with no future left to worry about !

oooh this has become way too philosophical !

BTW, my local Honda dealer told me that the 2017-2020 model has been a huge flop in Europe, while the older model did sell quite well..

Interesting, franov. I had the feeling the RS model was quite popular. I guess you get a distorted perspective here.
