Chain Guard
#1
Has anyone tried one of those universal chrome chain guards?

Not here - went with the Plot chrome chain guards - very high quality and perfect fit. I don't think you'll regret the money spent on one of these.

Plot is out of my price range coming in at about 140 bucks.

Holy smoke! Buck-forty?!?!
I promise you the OEM plastic chain guard will do just as good a job keeping the chain lube droplets from dotting the left side of your pants.

I'd rather put that 140 toward suspension upgrades. Either Ohlins shocks, or Raceteching the forks. Most aftermarket money is wasted, but not money spend on suspension upgrades.

I'm simply glad that we have choices. The true worth of anything is in the mind. Many would think the outrageous price of Ohlins a waste on a bike that will never see a track day or be ridden in "anger".

I would prefer a black aluminum chain guard for the simple reason that the gunk buildup from chain lube seems easier to clean from a metal chain guard. Is such an item available?

Ohlins isn't just for racers. I generally prefer to keep a bike stock (especially the exhaust and chainguards) but I've never considered money spent on suspension upgrades wasted.
Suspension is the one place where manufacturers save money. When you read a magazine review on a motorcycle, do we look at the quarter mile times, HP number, and MPG? Or do we focus on the unmeasurable aspects of suspension? I can't remember that last time I saw the word "stiction" in a motorcycle review.
All of my bikes have stock mufflers, and they all have the best suspension I can afford, be it Ohlins, Racetech, or Works Performance. Choices are good, but suspension is certainly a better bang-for-buck ratio than aftermarket chainguards there, facepainter.

I don't think Ohlins are a waste either if the very best suspension is what you want. $140 for an accessory that makes you happy is not a waste of money. Facepainter? Really!
