Jerky movement low gear high revs?
#11
From what I'm hearing about the bucking or surging could be the TPS out of adjustment. But I can't say for sure untill I ride one that does it. I know my first 14 deluxe don't do it but I had the ECM flashed and it runs great. The 2nd 14 deluxe I got has only 150 miles on it so I have not rode it enough to feel the buck or surge! But I will get my ECM flashed soon I'm just waiting for someone to take their bike to Don to put on dyno. Even tho he did great on mine with running and lots better fuel mileage Smile.

here is what the PCV adds to fuel mixture, fills in the gaps nicely.
0 is stock the higher numbers are % fuel increase at that RPM and throttle position.
or if you get an ECM flash but have them add the PCV increases would do the same thing, if they get the bike for the ECM flash and can setup on the Dyno, you can be SURE they will do % fuel increases like the PCV does.

Not noticeable in high gears and high speed (eg 100 km/hr in 5th).

Is this normal? EFI related?

6000 km service was 1000km ago, so the chain tension should be within tolerance.

Comments?

Thanks.

I've noticed this on my '13. It only occurs when trying to maintain a constant low speed (around 10-15 mph) in low gear. About the only place I encounter it is riding the last few blocks to work, where there are a lot of speed bumps. I wouldn't go so far as to call it jerky. It's just a little rough. Your description of the exhaust note as "spluttery" hits the nail on the head.Thumbs Up

I've always assumed that it was a fueling issue due to emission requirements. Since I rarely spend much time at low gear around 2K rpms I've never considered it to be an issue.

Yes flynrider, you are right about the 2k revs. This seems to be the most noticeable point. When accelerating (moderately) it seems there is a flat spot hesitation.
I'll have to look into ECM flash - not sure where to find this service in Adelaide Australia, though.

If you hold the throttle in neutral at a steady 1500-2000 rpm's you will hear an electronic clicking sound, watch your needle on the tach jump up and down when this occurs. I think its in the design at such a low rpm and sure this is what you feel when in motion.

The sputtering while holding a steady 1700 - 2000 rpm seems to be a characteristic of the stock tune of the CB. Some have called it a slow speed stumble. Its the only bike I ever had that did this. It didn't do it while warming up but did at operating temp so it seems the richer warm up fueling prevents it.......seems a little starved for fuel right in that range. Finally I got sick and tired of feathering the clutch all the way through the streets to my house an installed the power commander V. Ran perfect after that. Many owners either dont have this happen or dont think its a problem or work around it by accelerating or decelerating a little to avoid it. I never had the sputtering anywhere above 2000 rpm.

I just rode my 14 deluxe with the reflashed ECM I tired and tried to get my bike to do it. It never has done it not even once! I will try my stock 14 deluxe next.

Ridem,

The manual says not to ever mess with adjusting the TPS and you can't even order it by itself. How would one adjust it if it ever needed it for some reason? Inquiring minds want to know! Smile
