Help! Front wheel spacers.
#1
I know I should have a repair manual, but it's one of those things I put off in favor of farkles Blush

I removed the front wheel and took it in to get a new Mich PR3 mounted. When I got it back the mech handed me the spacers. One is taller than the other and I'm stumped as to which spacer goes on which side. I test fit them on both sides and either way it looks asymmetrical. I don't see any intuitive way to figure this out other than looking at the manual (which I don't have).

Can someone with a manual tell me which side of the bike gets the tall spacer and which side get's the short one?

Haven't had the opportunity to have one apart, but by the looks of the parts schematic; it looks like the the left spacer/collar is the smaller of the two. Maybe someone can chime to verify.

Thanks, Razor. I didn't think of checking the online parts fiche (last time I looked they didn't have the CB1100 yet). It definitely looks like the small spacer goes on the left side.

I'm off to the garage!

Done! Got everything back together and took a short test ride (it's 105 degrees right now). Looks like I'll have to get used to riding on a tire with a round profile again :-)

Just curious, how many miles did you get out of the original tire?

Not much. I was pretty disappointed in the Bridgestone BT-54 front tire. It started showing wear bars at 5400 mi. and I replaced it at 6K miles.

I'd grown accustomed to getting 12 - 14K out of the dual compound front BT-45s that I ran on my CB750. It seems that the rubber compound chosen for the CB1100 front was kind of soft. It wore more like a sticky sport tire than a sport touring tire, IMHO.

The rear BT-54 tire seems to be the opposite. At 6K miles it still looks great. I suspect it'll easily go past 10K miles.

I got 9000 out of my front and I changed the rear at a hair under 15000, but I could have easily pushed it for maybe another 1000.
