Front Tire
#1
May be dumb question, but no issues in only replacing front tire? I am @ ~6500 miles and it looks like I should change the front. Had the stock tires on her, thinking of going with the Michelin PR3 front. Any issues with just replacing the front?

I think I did my first front at 9000 miles and the first rear at 16000.

You'll have no problem. I did exactly the same thing. My front Bridgestone wore out at 6K miles and I replaced it with a PR3. I eventually put a PR3 on the rear when it wore out at 9.5K miles.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's it was very common to replace a tire when needed,. When I got back into motorcycling a few years back I ran into a new custom where tires were replaced in pairs when one tire was wore out. Especially if you happened to try a different brand or model line. The theory seemed to go that the tires were designed to operate best as a pair (both in tread design and compounds).

I think the idea has some merit and if you have the funds to do so I think it is probably a good idea. Doubly so if the tires are pushing 4-5 years old. Then wear is not the issue so much as the tires are aging out.

I just mention here to muddy the waters. Big Grin

I go with you Rboe. I change tyres in pairs. Not so much because I think it's vital but by the time one tyre has gone it's also about time to change the other. I have never had a puncture on a motorcycle with tubeless tyres so I haven't been put to the test there.

Not so when I was a youngster. I rode with tyres in extremely poor condition and would use any rubber in any combination I could lay my hands on. But then I was poor and thought I was invunerable.

Cheers

Where are you guys buying original replacement, Dunlop 205 Sportmax Touring tires? The official Dunlop website doesn't even list the CB1100 model, and says very little at all about the D205 model tire. I have searched several vendors on the internet (Chaparral, Bike Bandit, Motorcycle Super Store, Dennis Kirk ) and found no matches for "D205". Has this tire been superseded by the Dunlop D206? If this tire is not available what tires are you guys replacing it with?

Thank you.

My 2013 came with the Dunlop D205 tires. I could not source the Dunlops either. I have since replaced with Bridgestone BT54, OEM size, front and rear, and I am very happy with them.
