I pulled out my K&N air filter today as I noticed oil leaking from the clear drain line from the airbox. No oil in the airbox but a very fine layer of dust. Realized I had not used the installation grease. Had a tube from years ago, greased it up real well and reinstalled.
I'm going to check again in a couple of thousand miles and if there is any sign of dust, going back to OEM air filter.

I have never been a fan of oiled filters. actual filter performance is sub-par compared to the OEM paper filters. They are great for race cars that get rebuilt often, not so great for something used on the street for commuting.

Yup. Lots of cars (but not our CBs) run into problems with the oil contaminating the MAF too. I've never really felt them worth it for a vehicle that sees lots of miles.

What "grease" are you talking about?
What "grease" are you talking about? K&N makes a special grease that is intended for coating the mating surfaces where the filter seals against the airbox. The issue is with the design of the filter, it does not fit the same way as OEM so a grease is applied to give a good seal. It's pretty thick.

Yep, I think I'll toss it at the next service and go back to OEM. PITA to clean and re-oil, too.
May change my mind and keep it if the inside of the airbox is pristine at the next checkup though.
I am also noticing the Mobil 1 full synthetic oil finds its way out of the engine quite well. And the bike seems to be consuming it as compared with the semi-synthetic Honda oil I was using, 10W40 grade.
