Yup, the main reason I like the cling film on my bikes. I had Xpel clear bras installed on both my wife's car and mine when they were new. They do great work, and will last a long time if they are cared for well. Our cars are garaged and get frequent waxing. But, I had a piece of metal shred the hood cover on my car. I tried to help my clear bra installer by peeling it off so he'd have an easier time installing a replacement piece. Instead, he yelled at me for "peeling it off wrong", in a way that left a good deal of the adhesive on the hood. He said it took him twice as long to replace, because if he had "peeled it off right" in his shop, it would have pulled the adhesive up with it. As it was, I had to listen to him grumble for an hour while he scrubbed the adhesive bits off the hood.

So what if one doesn’t want to go the film route? Or you want to get the tank perfect before applying film. Will a good wax/polish remove those knee marks?

Wax/polish composition... it really depends how "deep" these scratches are, plus black paint is very sensitive, vs white.
Water mist spray, then I use very gentle/fine paint polishing compound mixed with wax and final wax only.
Very slow rotary/circulus combined speed/movement., or by hand if no buffer.

Thanks for the responses. I'm pondering the decent sized tank pads, Mr.P has used. ([url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=15359&pid=263578#pid263578]See here.) The one down side may well be that, once they go on, they may never come off.

I’m on my second set (black then blue tank) that Mr. P uses. The adhesive has a tendency to part from the pad. I’ve used 3M tape moulding tape to correct. No damage to tank.
