Dave
Your bike still running well?

Dave emailed that his bike is running well, with over 1,000 miles on it since he replaced the IACV.

Isn't he talking to us any more? ...it seem that he is running 2nd 1000 miles Probably, but he was out of town.

Unfortunately, my '14 DLX seems to be among the unlucky few who are having high-idle issues. Ugh! On the (perhaps?) plus side, I've had no low-idle or stalling issues. After riding around town and getting the engine good and warmed up, it consistently wants to idle at just under 1500 RPMs and rarely, if ever, drops down to the spec'd 1100.
There's already been plenty of discussion about what the likely issue is (faulty IACV) and how to fix it (replace IACV), so I won't go into that here. My question is this... Two friends and I are embarking on a road trip around Lake Superior in a week and a half. Do I absolutely need to get this resolved before we leave? or is it just a nuisance that I can live with until after we get back? I'm a reasonably accomplished garage mechanic and intend to DIY this. But how urgent is it? Please advise. Thanks.

Since high idle does not cause the engine to die, I would consider it just an annoyance.
Not all low idle issues may be the IACV. High idle may not have the same cause(s) as low idle. For example, it may idle high if the ECM thinks the temperature is colder than it actually is. Be good to first check electrical connections. How many miles? Ridden much in the rain? Parked in rain? See DTC info on FSM pages 5-15 & 5-16. |
