That 250 is a pretty cool looking bike. First I've ever seen one.

Thanks for sharing.

I guess thats Paul in the blue t, standing in the centre among the three men.

I can hit 75 mph on the interstate with chin on the gas tank, else 70 mph is the max speed. Riding 2 up, she's do about 55 mph. Since most people outgrow this bike in about 6 months, I figure I'm about ready for an upgrade...

And yes, I think that is vfrpaul98! He mentioned he was already on the forum...

Will,
Dismiss that 'grow-out-of mentality'; small bikes are cool (even if most people don't know it!).

By all means get the CB1100 but hold on to your 250... remember your first serious romance? Rolleyes

CB1100's and their respective owners hanging out at [url=http://www.ridershill.com/]Rider's Hill ! This is the first time I had ever seen this beautiful machine. Two of the gents had purchased them at [url=http://www.lhyonline.com/]Lawrenceville Honda Yamaha. I figure there can't be more than 10-20 in GA, so this is a rare sighting indeed! I took this video as proof!

I'm hoping to purchase one to replace my CB250 soon

The dealer told me I have 1 of 3 on the road in Arkansas.

It's a shame that small displacement motorcycle have fallen out of favor. They make great around town bikes. Back in the early 70s a 250 would have been considered a mid sized bike. When I was in high school there were 4 of us that rode motorcycles to school. I had a Honda CB360T, another had a Yamaha DT360 (he'd pull wheelies leaving school), another had a Honda CB500, and the forth had a Suzuki X-6 Hustler (250cc 2 stroke). I'd sure like to see some smaller standard style bikes come back like Yamaha's SR400

I had a brand new 1978 CB125S and used it to commute to work. A 250 would have been out of my league at the time. Smile

So for those that have owned smaller displacement UJMs and now own the CB1100 how much does difference does the extra power make in your happiness?

The things that are difficult now (with my CB250) are:
-riding up steep windy roads, such as the mountains of north GA
-riding 2 up above 40-50 mph
-anything on the interstate
-looking like a tough guy next to friends with R6's and Harley's

The pro's of the smaller bike are:
-light weight for parking/city riding etc
-negligible insurance/gas costs
-low maintenance--only fluids are oil and gas
-less temptation/capability to go too fast?

My first bike was an '82 Kawasaki CSR305 (UJM). I think you'll find the CB11 to be a very nice transition. The CB11 has more power, of course, but it's a very sublime ride. You won't be intimidated by the 11's power delivery, and it's not a physically large motorcycle. Upon hopping on an 11, you'll probably feel instantly at home, coming from your 250.

The extra horsepower will make everything on your difficulty list easier, but, IMHO won't really make you happier. The most fun I ever had on a motorcycle was riding a ragged out XR75.

This is a very good question.
After a week-long trip on my CBR250R I decided to make *it* my distance tour machine (If I were going 2 up, I wouldn't but this is solo riding only).

The following are my main reasons for favoring the 250:

1. Easier on gas, oil, tires (general cost and maintenance hassles).
2. The valve adjustment interval is 16,000 miles (though *never* would be best)
3. It's less mass to deal with, especially when you're tired (and wet).
4. When cruising along at a steady 75(-) the experience is not much different than being on a bigger bike (except when you want to go faster in a hurry which is not possible).
5. Park it and don't sweat it (theft worries are less than for a bike with more valuable parts).

The extra power is fun and nice to have, but in the mode that I get into on the long road tour (making steady distance or enjoying the scenery), it doesn't get used much and isn't worth the extra expense to me.

Bet the last CB1100 with fairing, side covers, and saddle bags belongs to vfrpaul98 on this forum.
