I love triples (and sixes), and am looking forward to a new middleweight "standard" from Triumph, called the Trident. It is expected to be announced later this year and available in early 2021. Intended to go against the SV650, MT-07, CB650F and Z650, it's an all-new engine, so displacement is unknown yet. Hopefully a 750 torque monster.

I didn't care for the powerband of the Street Triples, and wanted something more like the Tiger 800XC, without the weight and bulk. The last triples I had were a 96 Trident, 98 Sprint, and 99 Sprint, and have to say that Trident was my favorite.

I see bits of CBR600F tail, BMW tank.... I dunno. I gotta wait till it is closer to a real looking bike I guess.

I had a 69 Rocket 3 750 Triple (BSA's version of the Trident) . It was a great running bike for it's time. Very powerful for 58 hp lol, and quite the sound from its "ray gun" mufflers.
This new Trident is not very attractive to me, at least in mock up. Particularly the rear half of the bike.

From what I've read cc's will be 675 and priced below the others triples. We shall see. Triumph's prices have been creeping up into the absurd levels the last few years.

If it uses the existing 675 engine, that's a good engine. I've ridden one and was suprised by its spread of power.

Now that I no longer subscribe to any motorcycle magazines, I’ve found myself so out of touch with what’s coming down the pipeline.

Sounds like it'll be a budget budget Street Triple.
I had a 675 Street Triple R. The best handling bike I ever owned.
But that is what the Street Triple was supposed to be to the Speed Triple. A cheaper lighter alternative ( that happed to be in many ways BETTER)....
But if the Trident turns out to be a retro Street Triple like what Kawi did to the z900 or Yamaha did with the MT09/XSR900 they might just nail it.
###EDIT## Tablet didnt show the link at first,.. It's what I thought it would be.. Nailed it. I just hope they don't go budget on components.

At the price they are talking I can't see how it can be anything but budget components.

It shouldn't be too budget. Japanese manufacturers seem to have no trouble at all putting out quality bikes with quality parts at that price point. european manufacturers really don't have an excuse for using budget parts at that price.
