With your explanation this sounds absolutely plausible to me, had similar " mysterious" cel warning after a reluctant start on another bike with a good yuasa 1 year old battery, fixed by installing a lithium one with more start capacity, so yes.
Maybe a good idea to check for good and clean battery/cables contact, we found that a battery needs replacement if the green neutral light dims while the starter is operated and the voltage to the ecu is below an acceptable level.
Also older batteries need more frequent riding to keep them topped up before the inevitable, 6 years is a good lifespan.
If the speedo reads fine things are ok, that is the only comms signal i can think of on this line, good thinking.
