My 2013 w/ 24,000 miles always runs and idles great EXCEPT when cold; then it fast idles around 1500 (which is typical for the CB1100) but when I drop it into gear while cold the idle goes up to 1700-1800 but it only does that for a mile or so of warm-up. Then it idles when warm at 1050 all day.
Honda planted some idle variances into the bike that sense a variety of conditions and apparently Honda doesn’t advertise these nuances. When electrical connections get wet or corroded the signals controlling the idle give false signals and we call it “idle instability” and some owners got it worse than others. Tricky to trace.
