Bear in mind this bike has been out in japan, Au and NZ for 3 years. If there were any common issues, they would be well known by now. Not much can happen these days that isn't reported on the WWW, plus Honda has a lot of experience building just this type of motorcycle.
Not saying an extended warranty won't come in handy for someone, or that it's useless to buy one, just that from having spent 17 years in the industry, extended warranties are good money makers for the dealer, and are rarely used. If you do buy one, make sure it is backed by Honda and not by some outside insurance agency. Also shop around on the web for the best price, for my ST i've seen factory warranties go for $1000 and $500.. Same exact warranty.
